ESPN's Adam Rittenberg reporting that Texas State offensive line coach Clay McGuire is a "top candidate" for the USC job. This was always a name that made sense in trying to think along with what USC might do. McGuire and Harrell were on the same Texas Tech team in 2004 and McGuire coached for 10 years on Mike Leach's staffs. McGuire and Harrell also worked together on Leach's staff at Washington State.

McGuire coached the offensive line at Washington State from 2012-2017. He was then hired away by Texas Tech to be the co-offensive coordinator and running backs coach. He spent the past two years as the Texas State offensive line coach.

There you go. If true, that means that Harrell will finally be given carte blanche to run a pure Air Raid.

Wash St had the air raid but Leach seemed to have an effective run game when called upon.

Well, I would hope he could at least be as successful running the ball as he was at TX State.

Had suggested a WSU OL Coach would be best for Graham’s O.

It seems Harrell is exhausting his Rolodex! Better make sure this is the one as he running out of options?

The next step will be searching junior colleges for the next Trojan offensive line coach.

Is he a good O-line coach?

Will 4* and 5* recruits come here to play for the guy?

Will this make SC OL U again?

These are some questions that make sense to me.

I personally suspect 4* & 5* OL still won't want to play in the Air Raid system. It's not what will prepare them for an NFL career. McGuire having a career in coaching the Air Raid is probably use to developing 3*'s for several years and grooming them to take over for graduating players. If hired, I won't expect major improvement with the returning starters and all the 3* recruits we have acquired. Not in the first year. Hopefully it will be just enough to make it through Helton's final season and Bohn can fire him and Harrell.

I honestly have no idea why it takes USC to make a hire to fill a coaching position as compared to other top programs who seem to identify who they want and go out and get it done. You’d think these air raid OL coaches who coach at “lower level” universities, would jump at the chance to put USC on their coaching resumes....

I honestly have no idea why it took this long to specifically identify Clay McGuire as their "get". Given his long relationship with Harrell and the Air Raid, I would have thought he would have been offered the second Drevno was fired. Maybe the delay had something to do with Harrell being a finalist for the BSU job?

After we struck out on 6 other candidates and offered Adrian Klemm Division III support staff money . Embarrassing.

It is hard to land serious coaches when you don't make serious offers. Just ask Adrian Klemm.

So we pay and pay higher and higher wages to our performers and those who prepare them to perform. Donald Sterling was/is one of my favorite owners, thank you Donald for questioning the insanity and acting wisely.

A base salary should be the order of the day for players and coaches. INCENTIVES should be from where they can make the Big bucks. You win a championship big bonuses come your way. You bring us 8 victories bonus comes your way, 10 victories bigger bonus,,,

Guaranteed contracts? Nothing in life is ! so year to year players and coaches. Sweat for it like normal human beings and all extended members of the animal world.

Forgive my insanity lets continue instead with the sanity of paying out more and more!!
Give them what they want even if it means only them, their families along with big businesses, will be able to watch live games.
