Tennessee-Tee

So Tee Martin says that Tennessee has not contacted him about the coaching job there.

But, lets say he does go there to be the HC.

Who replaces him?

 

I would be very surprised if it wasn't Tyson Helton, unless Clay had something epic up his sleeve or wanted to bring someone in to replace Tee's recruiting chops.

 

First, a coach saying he hasn't been contacted means nothing. They would contact his agent, so he can truthfully deny. But that being said, I'd be surprised if Tennessee had reached out to Tee. After going through the Kiffin, Dooley, Jones trifecta, I doubt that Tennessee is looking to hire a coordinator as its head coach. I think they'll be throwing some big money at a name coach.
Now, whether that coach tries to bring Tee "home" as UT's offensive coordinator, and whether Tee would be interested in returning there in a lateral move, are entirely different questions. UT may be able to offer a more lucrative financial package (no state income tax helps), but whether Tee (and Mrs. Martin) want to go back, is up for discussion.

If Tee Martin accepts a lateral move as OC at Tennessee, good for him. Tennessee could give him a bump in pay and add associate head coach/offensive coordinator as a title for him. If he works with wide receivers that would be a bonus for Tennessee. All of this is just speculation, can't fault a guy for going back to his alma mater.

Tyson Helton is our new OC, we find an assistant to coach the WRs.
I would love for it to be a WR that has had success here at USC too, but as long as he has a proven track record..

 

Rumor this morning was that Jon Gruden is their #1. Gruden was interviewed and basically said 'never say never.'

I would hope that Helton would look to a current OC at a very successful non power 5 conference team rather than hire a relative...or even someone that is proving to be very innovative at a non-pedigreed power 5 school There is more than one choice out there.

 

Tennessee is opening up their wallets and they are looking for a proven big name guy. Rumors are they are prepared to offer Gruden in excess of over 10 million a year.

I know Tee has many positives, but I don't think he is yet to be considered in the same grouping as the likes of Gruden!

If Gruden returns to coaching (which I seriously doubt), it will be to the pros. He's been behind a desk too long.

Yea from what I read that Gruden was a GA there and met his now wife who was a cheerleader for UT. So Knoxville will always have a place in their hearts. This just might be the one job that gets Gruden out of the box.
