We climaxed early!

 

We outplayed them.

 

We were healthy!

 

Good job pre-game planning by staff. Team played well in all phases.

 

Fresh legs, a really physical and strong O-lineman over 325lbs, no freshmen up front, and Porter Gustin being our only real physical guy on defense...When USC had that they weren't finesse.

 

OL had an amazing game. Also, I don't believe Stanford was playing very well then. Teams can improve or fade during the course of the season.

 

Excellent question. Not sure anyone remembers that long ago at this point. Hopefully we will stop stinking the place up soon. I would agree that Furd wasn't hitting on all cylinders at that point. But I would say we were in a far better place psychologically then than after Texass, Kal, and obviously Wazzu. Last week wasn't a total shock only the magnitude of the lack of prep was - kinda like Alabama last year.

That's a big part of it, but what happens also is that other teams' DCs examine the film, see a few flaws in our game, and suddenly what worked a few weeks ago, no longer works. I know we've tried to add a few wrinkles like some trick plays and using Sam for RPO, but they've mostly blown up in our face. Throw in a few injuries, new starters on the O-line not living up to their promise, and some inexperienced freshmen. And when your O-line no longer performs well, everything else goes down the drain with it -- including our QB's confidence.

 

This is our season (so far) summarized quite frankly. Many on this board would add poor coaching. I would add the limited to zero tackling in practice. I am a normally very optimistic guy - but, realistically, I have found my enthusiasm ebbing quite a bit. I knew we had to avoid the injury bug to get through this bye-less season. My biggest fear was that we'd limp into the UCLA game and that high school team will beat us. I'm afraid that with each notice of a fresh injury, that vision is looking more and more possible

I'll go back a little further. HTF is Penn St #2 and we're struggling right now??? My pet peeve is always about losing kids to the NFL. I HATE it.
