Was reflecting on the impending CFB coaching carousel and wondering if a sober Sark will get any interviews to be a HC anytime soon. Dude has always been able to recruit and seems to have done well as OC for Alabama this year. Also can't hurt to have Nick Saban as a reference on his resume.

Call me nuts, but if Haden had addressed the Cutty Sark problem sooner and gotten the man some help, I wonder if he would have succeeded at USC. I know damn well the talent level wouldn't be as down as it is now, and our recruiting class wouldn't be in the 60's nationally.

In all honesty, I'd rather take a shot at a feel-good comeback story with a guy like Sark than hire JDR or Fisher.

No chance he was a failure at Washington, and they were elated that we took him off of their hands without having to buy him out. He maybe a great recruiter and a subpar OC, but that is the best it is going to ever get for him. Buyer beware!

Some people are just not made to be HC.

How does one have an effective head coach who is also going through rehab? The "face" of the program stood there in front of the media, high as a kite. That's a non-recoverable moment.

You have lost your mind. For me, there is no feel-good about Sark. I'm not interested in USC being the crash test dummy for his first sober ride as a head coach.

What are you smoking. We're better off sticking with Clay than taking a chance on scumbag Sark. Do you remember he wanted to sue USC?

    That is definitely true...
But, Sark admits he wasn't sober as HC at Washington or at USC, so I would argue that he never reached his full "potential" at either stop. That's nobody's fault but his own. However, Pete Carroll must have seen something in him to anoint him as the heir apparent.

If Haden had done any vetting or due diligence on Sark while he was at Washington he never would have hired him. It was the worst kept secret that he had a severe drinking problem. That being said I'm happy he's sober and has turned his life around. He lost more than money; he lost his entire family.

It wasn't just alcohol. He was pill-popping too. His lawsuit was unfounded but he was trying to claim that his drinking/drugs was a disability and USC was preventing him from receiving treatment.

For Sark to have been here that long and living the same lifestyle as in Washington (inebriated), he was doing so with help. I doubt Sark was the only drunk in HH. It's one way to guarantee nobody will tattle on each other.

That doesn’t surprise me. They should have cleaned house then, and brought in a whole new coaching staff.

What’s going to make it different if he gets his 3rd chance? Not meant to be

I want to see Sark beat the alcohol in his life, as I do everyone dealing with alcoholism.

But when it comes to football, he is not a good enough HC. He did OK in UW, but he earned his “Seven Win Sark” and “3 and Out Sark” monikers. I foresaw repeated 9 win seasons at USC, maybe the occasional 10 win season, but never contending for NC’s.

I remember going to an open practice around '05 - when we had the 2 headed OCs of Wonderboy and Cutty. My wife and I both noted that Sark was acting drunk the whole practice - just seemed off if you know what I mean? You know, inappropriate volume, puffy face, sketchy eyes, etc. Hopefully he has cleaned up his act - but he will always be a major liability no matter his coaching role.

Upon reflection Helton did an admirable job when duty called bringing USC its first Rose Bowl victory in nearly a decade.
