Worst position group on the field in 2019 (and 2018?) and we have none coming in...... so ya, we have a problem.

That was kinda funny. Oh yeah...don't forget...Utah had the best defense in the country too!

So what is your guess as to where USC ends up in the 2020 School Rankings in the first week of Feb?

I would have bet top 20 just cause we’re USC.

Now, looking at that incredible row of goose eggs in the position/offer/accepted list, I’m not so sure.

If Helton can’t coach up 5 and 4 stars, how will he do with a load of 3s?

That you find that opinion ridiculous indicates you haven't been paying much attention to other teams this year. That is not an absurd opinion, Oregon absolutely had one of the best OLs in college football this year. Penei Sewell is the best OL in the country and they had two other guys who were AP 2nd or 3rd team All-Americans.

We have room for what, 3 more players? that is not going to move the needle much and the top recruits are all gone.
Maybe a grad transfer or portal transfer player or players?

No way we are getting to top 20, that is not even possible.

    Not directly answering your question...
There’s been a lot of chatter about this recruiting class for USC and the fans’ reaction to it. Frankly I feel the reaction is extremely unfair especially to the players who are coming in. In fact at least one of the current players’ parents have spoken out against it. That’s not good.

That said, I’ve never understood the obsession with recruiting rankings. What’s worse is they are even more lopsided with early signing period. USC, it’s fans, the administration, and the conference (the PAC-12 as a whole is one of the lowest rated in recruiting rankings) created an environment that makes it even more difficult. I think it was obvious that the changes and turmoil within the coaching staff didn’t help get them in a position to pursue some of the bigger players on the board that would have looked nice on the roster, but the players signed look to be a big addition to an area of need that has been ignored in the past in favor of more stars. I think there’ll be an opportunity to close out the class with a couple special players that will fill some other needs. This probably isn’t a bad class to consider bringing in a greyshirt or two, but those are a lot more tricky. Yet, USC should be in a better place after the bowl game especially if they win.

Clark Phillips III (local 4* CB and top 50 overall player out of La Habra HS) flipped from Ohio State to Utah.

Wonder if this dropped USC from 11th to last in PAC 12 recruiting rankings?

History shows that recruiting ratings and rational tend to be kind of related. Look at the Pete Carroll years. It's not coincidental.

    And if we don't?

This says just about all you need to know about the damage Clay Helton Era has done to USC Football.. There is no way under Coach Pete Carroll that a La Habra flips from a major program he ends up anywhere but USC unless we don't need him period.

And even then Carroll finds a place for him because he and his top recruiters all e knew protecting your recruiting backyard is absolutely essential. And getting that kind of flip shows other programs they need not waste their time here.

Obviously Coach Helton has forgotten the real importance of that.

Are you aware there were TWO daughters from that family accepted to USC under the "rowing" guise? And their last name is not Loughlin, it's Giannulli. As in Mossimo Giannulli, fashion designer with a fortune that FAR surpasses that of his actress wife. Most of the email involved HIM with her as an ancillary. Not sure why you are so hyper-focused on Aunt Becky.

And I have no idea if they are spoiled but certainly neither had the academic credentials to compete with other students in their class.

You're largely right but Lori Laughlin and her character (and I proudly declare I never once watched that show) are far better known here in America. So it makes sense rightly or wrongly, fairly or otherwise.. If every detail was reversed but we were in Italy I'd bet the focus would be Gianulli even if his involvement was more periphery as hers is this instance.

It's just very sad any way you look at it.

Seriously? You need talented players to win. Just that simple. There is no greater prediction of future success than past success, and the ranking system captures that. Perfectly? Of course not. But one thing is certain: a guy who runs a 4.8 in high school will never run a 4.4 in college. Teams that consistently recruit the best athletes in the nation (Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State) also consistently have the talent to play for National Championships.

And teams that don't sign that level of talent WILL NEVER compete for championships.

With this train wreck of a recruiting class, you can be absolutely certain that we will not compete for a Pac 12 championship in 2022 and 2023. Book it.

    Mind boggling.

No. We will not be in a better place. Things are getting worse. What comes after worse? Much worse. Horribly worse.

We not only got our ass kicked in recruiting yesterday, but the implications of that will continue to effect next year's recruiting class. Things are going to get a lot uglier before they ever turn around.

    According to this site: https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaaol/2019
Oregon ranks 38th in average carries from line of scrimmage (pretty sure opening up holes is a sign of a good oline) (Clemson is #1)
They rank 27th in sacks given up (Alabama is #4 - first major school)
They rank 76th in power success rate (Oklahoma is #3 - firs major school)

This is what the best OLINE in the country looks like.

During Pete Carroll era the SC football team had 25 or more Parade All-Americans on its roster every year. During my 50 years of following this team I don’t remember the team ever having a miserable year like this in player recruitment. It is a shame that the Administration ignored the wishes of the alumni and the fans and did not make the necessary changes. The results of their misguided decision would come back to hunt the program for years to come. If Mr. Helton cannot bring championships with the four-star and five-star players (and the Top Two or Three rankings in the country) do you really think that he can do it when the current USC recruiting ranking this year is 69 or so in the Country and 11 in Pac 12? Oregon and Utah beating USC in football recruiting? How interesting!

In 3 years, Oregon, Washington AND ucla are going to be regularly kicking our ass if we don't fix the recruiting starting next year.
