Trojan great Moose Thompson died last week. He was 92. Moose was the Olympic shot put gold medalist in the '48 Olympics in London. Moose was also a two-time All American while at USC. Services are pending.

Moose was great back when USC ruled the weights with guys like Parry O'Brien, Sim Innis, Des Koch, Rink Babka and Dallas Long. Moose will be missed by old time Trojan track fans like you and me!!! (OK so I'm much older than you). We seem to be losing too many of our Trojan heroes from the past.

My dad tried to keep up with another Trojan great Bud Houser in the discus back in the 20's. It was no contest but Houser was a good enough guy that he gave dad one of his discus. My son has it now. I tried to talk him into giving it back to me so I could contribute it to USC for Coach Ron's track history collection. I guess I'm not a good enough talker!
