He probably felt pressured to go to USC.
But really wanted to go elsewhere and finally decided for himself rather than everybody else's expectations.

    Did he sign a LOI?

Yes. He was the only one to sign on the traditional February signing day and USC announced him that day.

Erik, this has been a puzzler, reminds me of the TE years ago who didn't sign with Stanford for months after signing day, Lorig? What are the issues? Pressured to follow his legacy father to SC? Didn't like the crowd at the TE position? Didn't like how he would be used as a TE? Has a girlfriend in Seattle? And by the way, if he has signed a LOI with us, I don't think UW can recruit him unless he is in the transfer portal - maybe some tampering? Had he participated in workouts on campus? Regardless, Jack should go where he feels comfortable and have a great experience. Too bad it's not SC.

Who was our last truly great TE? Fred Davis?

I swear the groups been cursed ever since Kiffin wasted Grimble & Telfer. Both should have been All Americans.

Makes sense to me. If you have NFL aspirations and you are a TE, why would you want to go to USC and a spread offense? If the new coach is like Petersen, Washington will make use of a lot of double TE formations.

That doesn't matter, the covid19 pass card has become the variable enzyme that breaks down all the existing rules.

Thanks. Do we have to release him? or are all the rules out the window now?

Not sure I agree. If he signed, why not hold him to his contractual obligation? Doesn't that teach him something? He's obviously torn--perhaps he needs to fulfill a year to his pledge for his own good.

Maybe he doesn't want to play LT?

Right now, USC is a premier destination for QB's and WR's. It's a much tougher sell for RB's and, especially, TE's, who simply don't get used in the offense.

USC would need to release him from his LOI if he's simply enrolling at Washington rather than USC. But if he's designated as a non-qualifier, then the LOI is null and void.
