I don’t think there will be any one game that will be the trigger point, but especially not the first game of the season after he was retained.

Don't boosters pony up the money for buy-outs and a good chunk of (at least) the HC's salary? If that's the case (I could be wrong) and the money was there (since Bohn said money was never a factor), then it can't just be about money. There's more at play.

I agree. I suspect that Folt is more concerned about adding off the field headaches at the moment than she is about success on the field.

I don’t think this is about the buyout. But I could be wrong.....

It is not likely that Bohn would keep Helton and fire him after Alabama game. If all it took was a blow out, then the loss to Iowa, though not on a blow out standard, certainly was convincing. We will be picked to lose to Alabama by at least 3 touchdowns, so why would losing to Alabama provoke a firing? Losing to New Mexico maybe, but not Alabama. My guess is he gets at least 4-6 games to show how much our team has "improved."

And why? His family seems to like living in southern California and with the money he is now making he can live in style. Also how many OC's get to have his level of control?

Yes, 8-4 is the best we could possibly due and that wouldn't bother these assholes in the slightest. But flirting with that will also put them in jeopardy of becoming 7-5 or 6-6 or if with not much help from this class 5-7 could be on the horizon for one or more of these years. They won't give a shit about that either. They are in control and we are just minions and fools if we enable them. AND J4SC, these people have norther the stomach nor the latitude to tarmac anyone now. As such also it's about more than the money. It's BoT cultural problems, and Folt isn't even a good filter, let alone a decision maker.

Of course it's the money. It's always the money. But if Bohn said so, and Bohn would never fib, would he...?

The airport at DFW is as good a place as any to ditch Clueless Clay. Except this time, doin't let him on the airplane to begin with. Drop him off at the baggage counter tell him his services are no longer needed, and instruct him that his office belongings will be boxed up.

I volunteer to box his crap up while the team is down in Big D.

Maybe there isn't any good HC out there who'd be willing to replace Helton before the Alabama game?

This is another possibility, unfortunately we may never know.

They should have backed the Brink’s truck up to Urban Meyers doorstep, then if turned down, back a smaller truck to PJ Fleck’s, etc.

So you're thinking that it was ever in the cards that Folt would pay Urban $8M, plus buyout all the current assistant coaches (I doubt Urban would keep many of them)? You're more confident than I am.

And if they couldn't get Meyer, then they should have gotten JDR.

I think Bohn should call up Meyer and ask him what assistants he'd hire if he were the HC. You never know...

So they'll already be in place for next year?

What makes you think it will happen after Bama? Why not after Iowa? End of next season IF that. Maybe we get a recruiting class in the top 100? San Jose State or UTEP could provide a challenge for some of those 3 stars.

Maybe Bohn found that no good, experienced HC would consider starting with Alabama as their very first game.

Since everyone's speculating on why Helton is still not fired, I think that guess is as good as any.

I still think it is for 1 of 2 reasons:
    1. Admin couldn’t care less about the football program provided there are no major scandals. 6-6, even 5-7 is an ok outcome.
    2. Admin actually thinks Helton is on the verge of a breakthrough with team performance and results.

to believe 2, they would also have to believe that past performance does not predict future performance, and that USC is able to win without talented recruits. So I’m thinking it’s 1.
