eh seems fine to me other than the cincy connection. ND has been a lot tougher than we have recently that's for sure.

In two years when Helton contract is up Bohn will steal Marcus Freeman from ND and hire him to replace Helton

I don't know Zito. This dude is 71 but he seems like he has a system that has worked for 30 years.

Might wanna give him a look.

Yes, please! I have no knowledge of this but my gut feeling is Bohn may like Helton but does not think he should be head coach at USC. He is quietly building a solid foundation -- something that should have been in place years ago had Haden and Swann been doing their job --- for the next head coach.

Looks like to me that Helton is getting the Coach O treatment. Surround him with as many other coaches and staff as you can who will pretty much do anything and Helton is relegated to giving idiotic press conference quotes.

Many many years ago in the distant past), coaches would sign on the dotted line in a New York minute to coach at USC. How sad how things have changed since Helton's been in charge.

Tbf, even good coaches like Bobby Bowden and Pete Carroll can be undone by a bad staff.

Really, it's been that way since the sanctions... Or beyond? I mean, we kinda lucked into CPC.

He moves around and he was Notre Dame's Associate....his boss is/was Matt Balis. Balis is given the credit for their S/C success in recent years. Is Stiner bringing something on his own or are we getting ND's methods?

I've read this many, many times and don't understand why it's accepted. He was available, expressed interest, called in to interview, presented himself well, and was hired. Sounds like a very normal process to me. Where's the luck here? I'm curious...

Garrett was not interested until all other options broke down. Mike Riley turned down the job.

OK, again, that's a pretty typical process in college. Urban turned down ND, so was Florida "lucky" to get him? That's just one example of many I read about. If you're saying PC surprised everyone with his success, OK, you could say luck, I suppose. But Garrett didn't have to hire PC, either. He won the job in the interview. It's what every coach is required to do to get a job. Give Garrett his due--he saw the gold in Pete and invested. Not luck, just a great hire.

Carroll was not even close to being on Garrett's radar screen until Garrett was pushed to grant him an interview by Asst. AD Daryl Gross who had worked with Carroll when he was the HC of the Jets. He was maybe the 7th guy interviewed. That's beyond luck.

My post was only in reference to his skill in being a great college coach. He’d not coached at that level and until then had been only a mediocre NFL coach. We “lucked into” his being such a great coach. That’s all I meant.

We were super lucky to get Pete.

Also lucky to get McKay. We owe a great debt of gratitude to former goach Don Clark. He hired McKay away from Oregon and after resigning recommended McKay as his successor. Luckily they took his recommendation.

that’s our history, relying on luck to get elite coaches. The only coach that was considered elite at the time we hired him was Jones, and that was almost 100 years sgo.

Relevant questions. I hope we will hear about his strategy...other than looking at film.
