Too many players in the 1st half. Kyle was put in at PG and we go down 17-10. Play 8 and then put in Kyle and Max when we're up by 15. With only a few returning players, you need set lineups to play together early in the year.

Isn't the early games about finding the best line-ups? If you don't do it now, you certainly don't want to be figuring it out during conference play.
And it is always good to have lots of players with game time experience. Long season, players get hurt.

Kyle came in real early and we go down by 10. Not a sub I would have made. There will be time in the 2nd half in many games. We are going up against tough competition very soon and I'd prefer to play 8 to get some chemistry with set lineups.

Another close game but man Rak and Okungwu are stellar, understatement on the latter.

That kid for Pepperdine was ridiculous and we never panicked and won a must win game.

This basketball board is like attendance at Galen. At some point, people have to get on the BB bandwagon.

if SC makes the tournament, then the board gets lively. I remember when SC lost to Providence, a lot of bandwagoners started ranting.

    Inside game is good
    Defense is good
Need to develop outside shooters to improve
Outside shooting will determine how far team goes

The inside game and the Rak-Big O Hi-Lo combo play is unstoppable. If JM and Adlesh can find their 3-point stroke consistently to round out the offense, we could make a serious run. We seem to struggle in the first half of most games, but as long as we aren't dropping easier games like these (cough, cough, Kentucky), can't be too much to complain about.

As far as attendance/bandwagon, I think if we go in to LSU undefeated and beat them, crowd and buzz will spike overnight.

Last years team would have likely lost one of these first 5 games, maybe 2.
But for sure, many of them would have been nail biters.

Big O has great FT form and it goes up soft. Big weapon at the end of games when you can pass to him with full court pressure.

I’m currently a student at SC and actually attended this game as my first of the year. Yes the student section had maybe 30-40 kids, it was a tough scene. I consider myself a basketball fan and have been watching this board and monitoring the team fairly closely and I think part of the problem is:
    1. USC hasn’t been considered a “basketball school” so many kids don’t know much of anything about the team. I get a lot of “are we any good?” Responses when I bring up the team.
    2. We don’t have any “brand name” opponents coming to Galen. No offense to Pepperdine and Florida A&M but not many students are going to take time out of their weekend or their school week to watch a team they don’t know much about play a school some kids have never heard of.

I agree with the sentiment that if we continue to win and climb the rankings, the attendance will follow. A tourney run this year followed by the #1 recruit coming the next would do wonders for the long term growth of the program

Eh, to be honest I don’t think I’d go again until PAC12 play. The environment is pretty dead (almost embarrassingly), which probably has to do with the aforementioned no name opponents, and concessions are still priced like a football game for a quarter of the enjoyment and atmosphere. Students get free tickets to the games which would be my only reason to go to another one before we play quality opponents.

You got to get the free pizza they pass out in the student section! Expect tonight will be better attended (though nothing spectacular). Tuesday at 6pm is really rough timing.
