    I always enjoy the place.

Chasen's, Tail of the Cock, Perino's, even Little Joe's, so many good ones gone

Tam O Shanter is a Lawny restaurant. Have eaten there before Dodger games.

Other restaurants that have gone away: Arches in Newport Beach, Northwoods Inn and Clearmans in San Gabriel. Clancys in Glendale. Don the Beachcomber, first Marina del Rey, then restarted in Sunset Beach and is gone now.

According to their website, Northwoods Inn is still going in San Gabriel. The same company also runs the Steak and Stein in Pico Rivera, where we used to go for special occasions such as birthdays.

Two other restaurants that are no longer around are the Sea Fare, a seafood restaurant in Whittier that is now a Pancake House, and Sambi's, a Japanese restaurant featuring teppan-style cooking, in Downey. I was also surprised to learn that Bergin's, an Irish restaurant in LA that was around forever, is also gone.

Tam O’Shanter is still open. Monty’s in Pasadena closed ages ago; Monty’s Encino closed afterward. Monty’s on Glendon in Westwood closed finally. It was located in the penthouse with a 360 degree view from which I relished looking down on uGly!!!!

The flagship of the chain was the Clearman’s Northwoods Inn on Rosemead in San Gabriel.

The Golden Cock--an upscale eatery which had a golden weathervane with the figure of a rooster on its roof--once stood at that site. In 1957, I joined my parents when they went there to celebrate their wedding anniversary.

THe Boat moved to the other side of Northwoods. Northwooods was our go to place for years.. Location because some family moved east and some moved est. I loved their salads and Baked Potatoes. A few years ago I had a steak that was chewy and just not very good. The next year same thing nd I was not the only one. we went one more year and the same. We stopped going to Northwoods. Westill go to the Boat though because it is a great place to have our group size. Northwood sucks now.

And growing. This has to stop, or we will all be in food lines trying feed our children.

Pacific Dining Carr reached out about this. They are not closing.

Their message: "To paraphrase Mark Twain, the reports of our death have been grossly exaggerated. We are pivoting to online sales for now, and look forward to serving USC Trojans for decades to come. (www.pacificdiningcar.com/steaks/)

We will, in the immortal words of the Trojans, "FIGHT ON"."

With the auction of the restaurant it would seem dining in will not occur again here. Dining in made the PDC.

When I worked in Arcadia I treated the grandson of the patriarch of the Clearman’s family as well as the grandson’s mother. Our office was catty-corner, next to Michillinda Park, from the North Woods Inn and Galley on Rosemead in San Gabriel.

I asked my patient of all the locations they had which was the busiest, expecting that the flagship San Gabriel one was the winner. To my surprise he told me the La Mirada one, next to the I-5 freeway held the honors.

Some readers will recall that the La Mirada location is situated next to the Elephant Bar at which an M & G was held.

My extended family did a Chrismas and birthday dinner at the La Mirada one last year. Crowded as hell but we had reservation for 10 and got right in. My steak was excellent...not prime, but tasty and tender. Loved the salad and bread. My grandkids thought that throwing peanut shells on the floor was a thrill ride. Naturally the check came my way....probly go again this year.

I just learned that the Stages Theater in Fullerton, where I have enjoyed several stage productions, is permanently closing their theater space due to the COVID lockdown.
