Give Orlando full control of the defensive practice. Where they hit, be aggressive so they defense could be really better than last year with all the players coming back. Helton needs to do that or he will not get Orlando either.

In researching Orlando, this was something that stuck out in a story I read: "You hear about soggy eggs and burnt toast, but it’s the pad popping that’s the real story of these daily efforts. Orlando believes the only way a team will play fast and hard is if they do so in practice. The Longhorns’ sessions reflect that. “If you practice soft, you’re going to play soft,” Orlando said. “We’ve changed that.”

What are you talking about? This is the worst kept secret in college football. There are several sites saying it's a done deal. Even his wikipedia page has him as the new USC DC

This was as good of a hire as we could make at this point in time.

But IMO, this us actually a solid hire.

Last year was an odd one in Austin, no one is really sure what happened. But aside from that, Orlando has been pretty good.

It’s better than a career position coach with no experience....at least we hires an adult this time.

Watch this. This is what USC has been lacking. Multiple blitz packages out of a Zone coverage.

Clemson uses the 6 man Zone Blitz alot. They send 6 keep 3 in zone 1/3 1/3 1/3 and 2 CB's. It's their bread and butter. This is a tough set to block against. If you dont have the right call in. It's a sack.

Their second trademark is when they blitz they do it out of a zone. Several of these picks were cause by the QB rushing and not seeing the second cover guy. Pressure creates turnovers.

Clancy likes to blitz in man coverage that's foolish because if their WR's beat their man the QB has an open outlet, and you let him off the hook. Also your DB will have his back to the QB.

It's no wonder USC has not had the INT's the last few years. You have to scheme for them.

I hope the next guy uses a Zone Blitz attacking concept. You will see a huge difference in turnovers.

This would surprise you. Talanoa Huganga is so talented yet ESPN stats does not credit him with a single Interception In 2 years? 18 games played. That's almost impossible to do considering he's always around the ball. To put it in perspective LSU freshman Derek Stingley Jr had 6 int's in 15 games. This is scheme not talent.

His problem was that Texas couldn't recruit DL because of his Tite Front.

The 247 SC board has an article on it.

It is a 3 man front that is pretty good at defending the run but not great at getting after the QB.
Mainly because of what gaps the DL are at.

He has to use blitzes. Great if they get home and can scare QBs.
If not you have WRs wide open.

    I worry about recruiting DL.
Going to be negativity recruited big time for Korey Foreman.

The slim chance that we had to get him is probably gone.

Totally agree although the success is dependent on players being able to make solo tackles and taking the right line to the QB. We all know those are not Trojan strengths under this regime.
I like the scheme. I loved it when CPC would blitz the corner from the Qbs front side, forcing him to check to the opposite side under route, but CPC would have the blindside DE drop back in coverage and be in perfect position to bat the ball down or even intercept it. Having said all that, next year is going to be the last embers of the Helton dumpster fire. .500 or one game better. This is a match made in heaven if you want a coaching change. Fight On!

Need to keep the defense off the field.

But we need to get out to a lead with Slovis.

    Need pass rushing.
Orlando was horrible and covered it up with exotic blitzes against everyone.
No reason why we should play like that all the time.

Need to start making people know they are playing SC.
That is with a strong pass rush because Slovis can throw TDs on any defense. Then we can run the ball with our different style RBs

Preferred a coach who played 4 up front against the weaker competition

I’m pretty sure Orlando is a done deal but I would think twice about
FYI Wikipedia is NEVER a place to fact check anything.

Wikipedia can be changed by anyone at any time. So it is not a good source for wanting factual information. But if it was changed by an Orlando party it could be true

I know that. Wiki once had Pat Hill as the OL coach for USC for a few days before it was removed. Its reader supported information. I wish I would have kept a screen shot of that. Clay Helton went with Bob Connelly instead. Can you believe that? (corrected Neil Callaway)

I can post several other sources but I don't care enough about it to invest any more time into it.
