Looks like an average DC going from one average underachieving program to another average underachieving
    program.

There is n0 place for the USC defense to go but up So in one regard Orlando can easily improve the defense. The physical approach is huge and this will further improve the team by itself. Lastly, the D is a year older w/very little lost from last year. Given all this, the d should improve significantly next year IMHO. If Orlando is really really good, the D will be really really good too. It has the potential to be.

He just won me over by saying we would be hitting hard and tackling in practice.

I just played a game using Todd Orlando's defense and we still lost to Alabama.

Just Kidding: Welcome aboard Coach Orlando.

I am praying Helton sits in a corner and he lets his OC and DC run the practices.
Maybe he can coach the special teams...could not get any worse.

Stubbornly refusing to do physical practices has made me question his intelligence. As someone said on another site: "he can clearly see it is not working, is he crazy or stupid?" lol

“All of those things are at not Xs and Os,” Orlando said. “That’s the biggest part we’re working on – being able to go hard all the tie, to be able to be physical all the time, to be able to communicate all the tie. Those are the things that give you a chance to play good defense.”

Thanks for the write up, good stuff....

I would hate 3rd and long. The D’s inability to get a stop when it had the opponent at that down and yardage should have got Clancy fired. I would never yell or stand up when at the Coli when the D had a 3rd and long. I got tired of being disappointed.

This is an issue Texas fans bring up pretty consistently. The big play LSU made to clinch the win against Texas this year came via a 61-yard touchdown pass on 3rd and 17.

Difference Clancy has been crappy since hired by Helton and getting worse. Orlando had one bad year after boosting the Texas defense the two years before that. He was fired by Herman to save his own a$$ - there were an incredible number of injuries and there was a lot of youth. That's one area Orlando doesn't do well - develop young players, but if you have the right position coaches you can get around that.

I think so and I'll answer this way (although using your logic you were no doubt thrilled when Monte Kiffin was hired):
    1. Orlando will bring fresh eyes on our personnel. I don't think there's an argument here that we have a lot of talent on the defensive side, but something was amiss with passion, chemistry, and communication. System too complicated? Who knows. CP didn't connect with the kids? Who knows. Coach lost his own passion? Who knows...all I do know is that unit is screaming for change. Is Orlando great? Who knows but he's definitely an upgrade.

Malik Jefferson was great against the Trojans.

Maybe so, maybe no, but there's absolutely no question that SC needed a change. Whether it helps or not remains to be seen.

so Texas fired Orlando at the end of the season. . . . TTech hired him a few weeks ago and we're now officially hiring him? . . . . another example of SC being a day late, dollar short. Why doesn't this program move with a sense of purpose?

Not hard to do since Clancy did NO recruiting.

Good = "You can't practice soft and play hard."

    We'll see (fool me once...)
