Didn't this same coach blowout ND in the Coliseum in 2016? Isn't this the same coach who beat a much more talented Utah team this season than they will have next season (and is 2-2 versus that superior coaching)? Didn't Helton beat the #4 Huskies at home in 2016?

Look, i'm as pissed as the rest of you that we don't have a coaching upgrade. But why revise history and make up alternative facts here. Helton is what he is. I believe in our players and will not insult their ability to play to win. There's more to a game than the head coach.

Don't worry, we have recruting nailed for next year. Thing will change.

    From Sports Illustrated:

With the early signing period just a couple weeks away, the Trojans sit at 67th in 247Sports’ recruiting rankings, in between Louisiana and Troy. Only one Pac-12 team’s class is currently ranked worse. In the state of California, USC unthinkably doesn’t have a single top-20 prospect from the state committed. Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Ohio State have each landed a top-six California recruit. Washington and Oregon have two apiece in the top 12.

The Duckies lose Herbert a first round QB, Utah loses most of their starters to graduation...and ND should have been far better than us this season and barely squeaked out a win at home...and our OL will be far more talented next season IMO...have you seen the OL class we are taking in? Huge. Colorado comes to the Coliseum and so does ASU. If anything, Helton has been very good at home, with 4 losses at home in the past 4 seasons. Say what you will about road Helton, but home Helton has been pretty good at winning games.

And Utah, the team everyone thinks is going to beat USC next season is behind the Trojans in recruiting rankings.

When considering the overall record, Utah has the better coaching staff and they have done more with less. Utah sends more players to the NFL than USC does. Poor comparison.

I hope these clowns at least gave Helton on a true performance improvement plan with objective measures of improvement that he must meet to keep his job. No more subjective BS. Example if they don’t finish in top 25 percent for least penalties and turnovers he fails those metrics. Same type of metrics for other performance measurements. Maybe they will force him to hire an assistant that is actually HC material.

I totally agree with this. I imagine USC went after every option they wanted and didn’t get a bite. So rather than pay Clay to leave and hire a plan D kind of guy they just said, let’s roll the dice and try again next year. I’m as disappointed as anyone right now, but I think that the guys we wanted, said no thanks at this time.

With fan expectations, California taxes, and Cost of Living, it’s a tough sell. Next year our fan expectations will be so low and the stadium empty, that any coach would love to step in.

Ugh to another year of this stuff...

It would certainly be best to maintain the continuity. Harrell basically just got things going in the last half of the season and we don't want to start over again. Maybe Bohn can insinuate an upward career path for Harrell if he stays...along with a little bump?

this didnt stop ucla from getting Chip Kelly. Nevermind the fact that he's doing shitty right now, he was a hot commodity that even Florida considered him.

I've just poured myself the first drink of the night. Next August I'll probably sober up and have some unexplained blind optimism.

The “Fan Expectations” much lower at UCLA football. They are used to being mediocre to bad.

This might be the only logical conclusion outside of Urban Meyer saying he needed one more year. Otherwise, the only explanation is that Folt and Bohn have lost their minds.

There is no scenario where that first one exists. It would be asinine and a troubling way to do business.
