That sounds exactly like what Swann said!

That worked if recruiting was Top 10. Unfortunately going forward I see multiple 7-9 win seasons based on how recruiting is going. No assistant coach will work and the fact that Harrell is interviewing other places shows he may not want to work with Helton either.

I am blown away, really couldn't see this happening. We will never know the reasons for what happened. I am willing to bet it is about money and perhaps the time it took to make the announcement was about trying to negotiate a more favorable buyout of Helton's contract. There is no way that he demonstrated coaching skill, and this is coming from someone who supported Clay until the 5-7 debacle. He has to find a very strong DC who can also bring more toughness and discipline to this team and I am not sure who wants to join a coach who will continue to be on the hot seat.

In less than one month on the job, Mike Bohn has shown that he is every bit as incompetent as Pat Haden and Lynn Swann.
I hope he enjoys the season opening beat-down by Alabama.

Come on man...even the biggest Helton hater would agree that next year's team will be far better than this year's. USC will win 2-3 of those games. I say they beat ND and UW in the Coliseum and beat either the Utes or Ducks. They are beatable. I think they will be two wins better...which puts them at a 10 win regular season.

Do people not understand this? Mr. Fight does not know how to run a championship program!

I will be happy with this hire only if we can bring Dave Aranda for DC and Joe Brady for OC.

    that would never happen ever

You don't jump a rising jump for a sinking ship. Let's stop being delusional and stick to reality, Clancy and Baxter are going to be retained. Because no one wants to join a lame-duck coaches staff.

What is their current practice routine? I assume you've attended the practices and understand NCAA rules regarding how often you can practice with live tackling. Just would like to know from a practice insider how much of that allotted live tackling time from the NCAA that Helton isn't using.

I haven't been to any practices so I cannot really comment on WHAT Helton is or isn't doing in practice. They definitely should be a helluva lot better than they have been at tackling and avoiding stupid penalties.

In my view this current team of athletes has far more talent than the one 2 and 3 years ago and those two teams went 21-6 with a RB victory. If they could do it then, why can they not do it now...honest question...what has changed? I believe Slovis is a more talented QB than Darnold was.

What makes you think Dub, Utah, and ND will be blow outside? You assume they're losing players and will get better while we're keeping players but will be worse? That doesn't make sense

regression is always on the menu with Mr.Fight and if you didn't know more than half the games are on the road

It's not solely about the players. It's about how shit Mr.Fight is at preparation and in-game adjustments.

My point as well. I believe we win all three (or lose to Utah and beat he Ducks) of those games. Hell, Helton came close to beating the paper tiger Domers in South Bend this season. Pretty sure we could handle them in the Coliseum next season.

Honest question for you TFH12. They did fine in 2016 and 2017...with less talent. I think one of those seasons they played 12 straight games without a bye. What's different now that the Trojans cannot win 10 or 11 games? I think the consensus was that the players were the ones who willed USC to those 10 and 11 wins, right? Why can't a more talented team do the same or better, regardless of Helton's skills as a coach?

Far more likely that we are back to 5-7 next year. Play Oregon and Utah at their place and Alabama on a "neutral" field. Those will all be losses. We won't have the OL to compete with ND. Colorado is on the rise with Tucker as coach. I think Herm's ASU team will be much better. Best question is what will it take to fire Helton if the last two years haven't done it?
