Sacramento ran a successful trial program with BMW over a three year period [05-07]. BMW outfitted a couple dozen E65 sedans with engines designed to run on hydrogen H7 [100 were made]. And since then have come up with other hybrid and electric designs. At the time California was unwilling to help fund and certify a network of hydrogen filling stations and there were still things to work out with the storage systems. Shell helped fund and promote the project but was unwilling to provide California with a larger network on their own dime. And if left undriven in the garage for more than two weeks the hydrogen would boil off into the air. Pound for pound liquid hydrogen packs a lot more energy than gasoline and requires no mineral resources, just electricity... lot's of electricity. But that was to be powered by solar cells at the stations.

I guess the point is that Calif are unwilling to do what's required to make such alternative fuels work.

The car manufacturers should be thanking CA. Here is a link to Tesla's batter day held yesterday (edited down to 14 min).

Combustion engines will be obsolete well before 2035. If the enclosed video blueprinting Tesla's plans through 2030 do not wake up the manufacturers, the law will....either way they adapt or die.

Think of the cell phone in your pocket, Tesla is now advancing automobile technology at the same rate. Elon was begging the other car companies to join and laughing about the future of ICE vehicles. The crazy thing is they openly share their patents and are so far ahead they no longer seem concerned with any competition, rather welcome a shared vision for reaching their goals (of essentially weening the planet off fossil fuels - small goals like that).

Dude sledge hammered all objections and their product is still in it's infancy.

If gas cars are/will be obsolete, why do we need politicians taking away your freedom to choose otherwise? Newsom apparently disagrees with you.

It doesn't bother lefties that he did this by executive order? Just a personal whim? Is that how we're governed now? We've seen that he gets to issue diktats on whether we can operate our business, go to the office, travel, let our kids be educated, even whether we can sit on a towel at the beach. No reason to stop there.

When some folks worried about the infringements on our freedom, we were told to STFU because we are in a medical emergency. When some predicted that this paved the way for "climate emergency" orders, that was laughed at. Well...here it is--the opening salvo.

I can’t wait for the blackouts when 20,000,000 vehicles get plugged in simultaneously!

The sheer ignorance on display in your thread. How dumb can you be?

Watch the video. Telsa will have a conservative estimated manufacturing capability of 3 terrawatts of battery storage annually by 2030. I just cannot fathom going through life ignorant to the world changing around you. 3 terrawatts is a slow ramp too, so 2029 your are probably at 2.7, then 2.3, then etc etc etc. Lots and lots and lots of recycled batteries made from readily available high sustainable (basically infinate) materials. So by 2030 We are talking 15-20 terrawatts of power available (just from Tesla battery cars & power walls).

You can wake up or put your head in a hole, the choice is yours. Car companies should be thanking CA for the wake up call (Tesla basically bull horned it yesterday and yet most Americans don't have a clue about what's coming down the pipeline.

    2:10.00 Terrawatt scale discussion.

    here is a terrawatt breakdown:
    https://www.electricrate.com/what-is-a-terawatt/#:~:text=You%20now%20know%20that%20one,to%20continuously%20power%20200%2C000%20home

Terawatts - (1TW = 1,000,000,000,000W) That's right - 1 terawatt is equal to a ming-boggling one trillion watts (1012W). When you get to numbers this large, the only helpful comparison is to think of the amount of electricity used by the entire country or by the whole world. The energy consumption of all humans is approximately 17.7 TW, while the U.S. share is equal to about 17% of that.

So you cannot buy or sell a new one here....If I live that long, can I walk to Las Vegas and BUY one and drive it home? Will he be outlawing gas stations too?

This guy is really a pea brain....he is hoping that Kamel does not get elected, because he sees himself as a POTUS candidate....

All this does is harm the poor.

Oil is the cheapest form of energy sans Nuclear but since they got rid of that.....they’re fucking stupid, electric isn’t there yet nor will it ever be for the foreseeable future.

Here is a better recap for your gold fish attention span.

Edumicate yourself. Uh yes dumbass their fully autonomous semi is about to hit the road with 1M pre-orders. Not to mention Rivian is building a fleet of electric delivery vans to replace Amazon's delivery vans. (You might want to google Rivian)

At what point do you admit you know nothing?

Look who's back, backdoorbuck, not even hiding how enthusiastically he gargles brown-out Newsom's sack.

Yawn. Earth to backdoor, what you want is ok for you, but you and Newsom don't get to dictate to everyone else to become hostages of enviro-nazis.

Gee, how many gas, coal, tree chip and trash burning plants will be used to make the electricity needed if nuclear isn't part of the equation? What about the solar and wind farm dead zones contaminating the land and ground water they are built upon? Where and what will be producing the terawatts needed? What about battery storage? What about recycling of spent batteries? What about a standardization to use different batteries offered by different companies, if there are other companies or will there be a battery monopoly? Will hydrogen factories be built and used to make electricity? What will California do after no more gas tax? Will they tax or add huge fees on electricity usage or quadruple license fees?

    Lots and lots of questions...
