I always enjoy your musings, and thank you for that! I am out of the loop, why do they call Palaie EA? Thank you!

of all the absurd things we saw last year, keeping EA off the field towards the end of the season was perhaps the most extreme. The eyes don't lie. My eyes also tell me that Devon Williams may be very special as well. He wasn't as needed as EA last season, but i'd like to see more of this guy too

The last two syllables of his first name are pronounced E-A.

Will Clancy playEA ? He most likely is a 3 year & off to the nfl player. Clancy should be on the hot seat too. He admitted to be schooled by a losing ruin team.

Keeping EA off of the field last season was coaching malpractice, and yes Clancy's seat should be just as hot as Clay's for that alone.

Even for this crew, the Doctor Death of the coaching ranks, it was coaching malpractice.

"If they had named it Bureaucratic Procedure By Which You Bail On Your Teammates nobody would ever touch it. But Transfer Portal!? I’m in."

    Classic.

    Wonderful column.

Good article Chris. I think it was your first article free of Helton, which is good.

And yeah, let EA loose on opponents offenses!

Yes, “free of Helton” is good.

I enjoyed the article Chris. Cannot disagree with a single thing you said. 100% agreement on this end. Regarding Sua and naming names...I wonder if there's just too much pressure on these kids to keep it a secret. Like who wants to jeopardize some NFL money by becoming known as a snitch. There have been a few kids who admitted to taking cash and illegal benefits post college, but nobody really did anything about it. If the NZAA wanted to clean it up, they could. If they only put in 1/10 of the effort into cleaning up paying players and PED use that they put into sticking it to USC...things would be much better for everyone.

I know...we cannot let people on here think that disagreements are not personal.

I agree on what EA can bring the team next year. Hoping that Solomon Tuliaupupu is his own force as well. Those two are a great reminder that this team has some players.

Come spring it will be good to see where Marlon Tuipulotu is. The reason I say that is because he was coming off back surgery last year, and I personally think he was learning on the job and or not at full strength. He, combined with Jay Tufele could offer the same kind of one-two punch EA and ST can provide. Wouldn't that be sweet!

Maybe stated before, but USC guarantees a four year scholarship, so I don't see the football players being held hostage. That is unique among the football powers. As for not being compensated for the publicity they bring the university, do you think Reggie Bush would have made the same money going pro if he had attended Cal during the same period?

I get a little nervous when I see a headline that has "Palaie Gaoteote" and "Transfer Portal" in the same sentence.

EA is pronounced ee-ayy but actually spelled IE like the last two letters of his first name. I saw his family wearing IE shirts at the UNLV game last year.

The truth is, players should also be able to turn pro whenever they want. Basketball has it right.

I can’t agree with the “free transfers” thoughts.....IMO there would be mayhem in college football. I’m not going to list all the possible issues, but to me they’re obvious

Schools invest a lot of time and money into recruiting. Kids jumping in and out with no accountability or penalty would create chaos....in the recruiting process, in recruiting budgets, in cheating, in team chemistries, in fan loyalties, etc.

Pro sports has enough free agent issues and loyalties problems.....college football doesn’t need that. Kids need to learn to make competent decisions.
