Sam Darnold has clearly proven himself as the starter. Max started in three games and in two of these he appeared he was in way over his head. Arizona State has come back from huge second half deficits in games this season. Can someone explain why the hell Max Browne was sent in the game early in the fourth quarter?

Helton may have wanted to give him some meaningful minutes to keep him game sharp. We are an injury away from needing him down the line. It also keeps Sam Darnold safe from a freak injury in the final quarter when we have already put the game away. Their starting QB was out and we were putting our two's and three's in for experience. Their last two touchdowns were inconsequential. Does that explain it?

Were you scared Browne might give up 30 points? I'm sure Helton wanted to keep Brownie's head in the game, after the demotion. Nothing wrong with that....the game was over.

There was a lot of complaining that Max did not come in as a backup last year. Unfortunately, the way Max looked, we may not be seeing that much of him in the future. We may be looking elsewhere for a reliable #2. It's a shame and I'm a bit at a loss to understand it. Clearly Max should have played more last year. Maybe we would have come to this realization much sooner. I hope he can figure it out and turn it around somehow.

It seemed it was all about padding Cody's stats. However, this season Max was given a fair shot and Sam proved he is the better QB. I have no problem inserting Max late in the 4th quarter of blow out games.

Otherwise you risk him getting hurt for no good reason. This isn't rocket science. Helton would be an idiot to keep Sam in during mop up time of a blow out win.

USC does need to have some option as the backup and given that the team seems to prosper more with a QB who provides some running threat might Greene be the better option to cultivate in that position? Don't mean to kick Max if he is down but the backup position is important, especially when your starter is a guy who does put himself in situations where he might get hit, wouldn't you like a guy with some similar skills to be the replacement? Max has plenty of options next season as he will be a graduate who can transfer and play without sitting - if he can win the backup spot at USC and wants to stay then I think all of us would welcome that with open arms - but if he can't overcome the disappointment of the demotion and can't really contribute then shouldn't HCCH cultivate a backup who can?

Darnold is in second game in college...the coach has made a decision to play him...he needs game experience. This seems like a chicken bleep attack on Helton

Take the low risk route, don't turn the ball over, and play smart. The problem was, the team didn't respond around him, to allow him to be so conservative. Last year, that approach was okay. This year's squad needs the QB to be a playmaker, and Daronld fits this team better.

Sam was doing fine and game time reps are exactly what he needs to continue his growth. Perhaps El Camino College is looking for a few coaches...
