We would be doing a lot better, but out of the sweepstakes for the real best coach Urban Meyer.

We'd be where LSU is--up there with the big boys, where we're supposed to be.

Urban Meyer ain't comin'. And if he does come, it will be Robinson II all over again.

I doubt this so much. I'm glad CEO was able to go home and have success, but I don't think he would have had the same success here. For one thing, we just now hired a competent AD. It's been six years since he left. There's a good chance that even if he had been hired that he'd be gone already.

I always said I loved Coach O and I root for LSU because I want him to succeed. That being said, the OP and the rest of us have no idea whether or not he would have been successful here and to just assume that shows a lack of knowledge college football history. How many can't miss coaches have missed? The list is pretty long. Also LSU is great this year because of probably the best QB LSU has ever had - much like Darnold with Helton. The "greatest coach right now?" - Ok maybe for the next few weeks, but let's see how LSU finishes before we anoint that title.

People forget he lost the last two games (UCLA and ND), and CCH did a credible job with the big bowl win. Not saying CCH is better, but better to remember the facts leading up to BEO leaving, before the bowl.

No he isn’t the best head coach. Not even close.

With his recruiting skills, todays version of CEO would be off the charts at USC....hes learned to hire the right coaches, and is now just managing the program...

Happy for him.....classy dude thru and thru....

Yes. Lots of revisionism going on in this thread and on this board. Ed only got the occasional mention since 2016 when he was promoted from interim to HC in red stick. It wasn't until he brought in Canada that there was a change and then last year, they blew it against Florida and got shut-out by Saban. This season is successful, but Ed's not doing it on his own. His practice routines are PC's, the offense this year, Robinson is a difference maker since Ensminger didn't do shit last year, and frankly, they are lucky to put up so many points, because their D is not top 4, or even 5.

Ed O at USC is not Ed O at LSU.

Of course he’s not the best head coach in the Country and who really knows how’d he be doing at USC. That being said, I’m sure the program would be in much better shape than it is right now with a more talented roster.

Ed Orgeron's real head coaching career is just getting started but he's doing an excellent job - so far so good. It's way too early to judge his career as a head coach. Perhaps we should give it another five years so we can have a clearer picture.

I did love how after the game, a few of the LSU players went to where Bama's potential recruits were sitting and yelled that they should go to LSU now!

The 2013 UCLA Bruins were 10-3. Probably Mora's best team. They were loaded. Brett Hundley and Myles Jack. Mora's first three years he won 9 games 10 games and 10 games before he went off the rails.

ND is ND its always going to be a 50/50 toss up. They were 9-4 #24 ranked. The game was at ND. Guess what the score was?
    14-10
Which shows me something. On the road @ ND and you lose a close one on short notice as the HC.

You can't blame Ed O for losing to these 2 teams in 2013 with someone else's roster. Both of these teams were ranked in the top 25.

The UCLA teams that Clay Helton has faced don't even compare. Nice try tho.

Conversely he gets no credit for the wins he got either, correct? There were 6 of them. Could have been 7 if he hadn't bugged out on "his sons" before the bowl game.

I still wonder where Ed Orgeron would be right now if he WAS given the job.

What does Urban Meyer have to do with Jrob2? Did he coach us before? Did he look like Jrob2 in Ohio State? Totally wrong analogy. Now if Someone mentioned PC coming back maybe you can use that. But even that won’t be jrob2.

Maybe not the best analogy, yet the hype and puffery accorded this latest "can't miss" choice for a head coach leaves me skeptical.
