Perhaps the deep state at USC is working against a Meyer hire. Excerpt from an article I found by Ryan Phillips: “It wouldn't be wrong to suggest a bit of a civil war is brewing on campus at USC. There are some in positions of power who feel they would be on the chopping block if Meyer is hired and, in turn, brings his own people in.”

And those people would be......? Meyer would bring in a new B of T? Last I checked, only the B of T can bring a new B of T. Meyer would bring in a new president and AD? Last I checked, the president hired the AD who hired the coach, not the other way around. He would bring in new assistant coaches? (OK, I'll give you that one.).

I believe the OP is referring to the Athletic Department. I've heard from other media sources that there are a few people in the Athletic Department who don't want to ever see a Head Coach hold so much power like PC did. They are there to make sure the football program never grows to the status it once had under PC. I believe it, that's why the ''Meyer hire'' will never happen. I hope I'm wrong though.

Once there is a new AD, that athletic department is gone anyway, and there will be a new AD before there is a football coach. So if there ever was a moot point, this is it.

That is an interesting concept I never knew about. PC ran roughshod over the Athletic Department? Worth researching though.
    Thanks

If you believe the AD runs the Athletic Department then you are sadly misinformed. He/she is simply the fall guy/gal when things go bad.

But let's keep believing that the USC brass really wants to see USC football succeed.

I'm sorry but Ryan Phillips? Exactly where is he getting his info from? He's hardly a campus insider.
Not the correct description. It was well known that PC, his ego, and all the attention he got, was starting to look as though he was bigger than SC. Some people didn't like that. Namely Sample and then Provost, Max. Both were tiring of Garrett as well.

They don't! you should understand this. The last two decades has, as Petros so eloquently put it, "tightened their asses". We really REALLY fucked up with BUSH/NCAA bullshit. Trust me on this: academics do not like jocks. The more jocks mess with them the more the anger builds.

I heard this same issue when PC was still here. Lots of resentment during that period.
    Bunch of insecure petty people.

You sound so definitive. I hope you're right. I don't pray...but I pray this comes to fruition.

Anyone believe Steve Lopes , #2 , & Ron Orr didn’t know anything about buying your dumb kid into SC via fake sports profile. Didn’t a defense attorney for one of the parents get a hold of emails linking Donna , #3, & Orr? A New AD needs to clean the cess pool at HH.

The academics don't seem to mind the jocks at other "prestigious" schools like Duke, North Carolina and Texas . Maybe it's just a USC thing to be insecure on a lot of things.

Texas isn't ranked that high as an academic institution. They are close to what USC was in the 70s. UNC and Duke aren't really known for football. It's easier to pass 5 basketball players as fake students than it is to pass 40 football players as fake students.
