This is one year USC might have give Alabama a good game with USCs offense on the rise and
having a better coaching defensive staff. But it is the Helton luck with winning without looking good.
It seems like the USC staff is much improved this year.
And if Helton can just learn to be a good manager it should be a decent year.

It is a year that SC avoids two rivals, but agree, Greg, that SC should and better win big this year. Dropping 2 or 3, or more, in a Pac 12 only schedule should tell Bohn and Folt something that many on the board already know - Helton isn't the answer as head coach. A great year kicks the can down the road and doesn't answer the question.

    Great column.

    I love this:

"...did you miss last season’s games against ranked teams like Oregon, Notre Dame, and Iowa? We won’t even rehash Ohio State in the 2017 Cotton Bowl. You get the point. That’s not what you pay the head coach of the storied USC Trojans to produce or maybe that’s what making close to $5 million dollars a season gets you these days. "

As you said, you get a lot of moral victories.

We are paying good money to have a program like Utah, Northwestern and Vanderbilt. Given our tradition, not acceptable.

Love the idea of "true freedom" with the regard to spending. Just have to figure out how to get rid of the wife. LOL

    Mr. Katz,
NCAA football in January? Maybe in Southern California & the south but consider the weather in South Bend or Boston or for Rutgers.
Here in the northeast you won't need virtual fans in the seats because except for inebriated die-hards... nobody will show.
