I'm OK giving Clay one more year

That's my personal opinion. I think...I hope...he learned a lot from this season. I will say the players did not quit last night. They played their tails off. I give Swann and USC credit for their loyalty. Hopefully we haven't entered the loyalty to a fault phase. We all know Clay is a good man, but that doesn't mean he gets a job for life. To the rest of you....give him one more year. Chill out with the boos and the banter. We started a HS QB! FIGHT ON!

 

And who made the decision to start a HS QB? The same guy that thought tackling and hitting in practice was a bad idea. The same guy that has allowed our center to throw grounders or moon shots back to the HS QB all season long without moving him to a position he is much better suited (G). The same guy who talked of becoming a power run team but showed no semblance of that, just a pass happy 7 on 7 offense. The same guy that once he took over play calling, scored an impressive total of 10 second half points to close out the last 3 games.

 

Eat a bowl of dicks, Matt. Don’t tell anyone else how to feel. And he started an overrated, over-tutored kid who would have been a college freshman had his dad not held him back in the 8th grade so he could be a year older/bigger than his competition. Shorts and shells and favoritism are ruining this team in ways the sanctions couldn’t. Here is to another year of it.

 

What do you think Helton is going to do that couldn’t have done this season? Is gonna just all of a sudden flip a switch and become a good coach? Become a winner? Daniels isn’t as good as Darnold, and only Darnold was able to make Clay look half way decent as a coach. Good luck with your optimism, not sure it will last very long.

I'm sure Helton will massively turn things around next year in the crappy Pac 12. All the many non-Trojan Pac 12 and ND fans I know may be smiling today, but they'll see! Ha ha ha! They should be shaking in their boots right now!

 

I’m giving him another year because I have no choice. Helton is our HC whether we like it or not. I would have definitely preferred a new HC, but that didn’t happen. I’m now hoping that a new OC and other staff can make a difference.

It was Clay Helton that chose to start a HS QB, because he did not have the 4 and 5 star QBs practicing under him for the last 2 to 3 years ready to start.

Decisions by Helton; like starting JT over any of the other QBs, not having a system, lack of player development (physically and fundamentally), lack of team discipline, soft practices, poor scheme, and poor clock management are just some of the problems this team faces. Helton just does not possess the skill set to be a successful Head Coach at this level.

 

Pretty much where I’m at. Nothing we can do. What really scares me though is the bar has been set so low, that even a modest improvement, say 8-4 will be thought of as some major step forward and buy him more time. Going into this season no one was thinking 8-4 would have been acceptable

My personal opinion is the whole Banner thing was classless as shyte and part of me is laughing at the people that wasted their money on it. I haven’t spoken to one person who liked it and that is several people who were at multiple tailgates and they said they didn’t speak to one person, no matter how upset about the situation who didn’t think it was fvcked up

 

I don't know Clay is a good man. Although apparently after the train wreck of a season Clay does regret we are not playing for a championship. So maybe he is a clueless man, or a delusional man.

 

Don't worry about that. We're not going 8-4 next year.

 

In 1984 on the old Late Nite with David Letterman he was trying out new catch phrases. This was one of them.

Can't we just get a bunch of guys to follow Clay around and pelt him with rocks and garbage until he quits? Not big rocks that would cause serious injury, just little to medium sized ones that would be annoying. Just everywhere he goes, constant pelting. Seriously man, we gotta do something to save our beloved team.

 

More return on investment than buying seats to watch this buffoon run our program into the ground.

 

And what return was that?

 

More entertaining that watching a whole team disappear every second half. Is this a football team or a magician’s act.

 

This is what people don’t seem to get. Im not happy either, but the choice for me is to either give up something I have loved for most of my life, or not. Helton is either successful next year or he and Swann both go. Simple

 

This is the exact response Swann figured would come from this. After processing everything, emotions would down and slowly, but surely, people will back away from the ledge.

 

So it was kinda like investing in Movie Tickets?

 

The board is sounding a lot like Hineygate did a few years ago. Such a shame...
