These 3 are the sure things IMO

    Johnson
    Salahuddin
These 2 are the next up IMO.

I'm not sure the staff need or want to take a commitment they don't have to honour right now. Only elite OOS guys wanting in later will change that this year. Calvert, Scott or Johnson will decommit next if any do.

    Interesting question.

And I know we'd like to close the book on a couple of guys early.

But my answer is . . . the staff doesn't encourage anyone to sign now (if the early signing period was at the end of June).

It's simply too early, and too many things can happen for the recruit and the school.

SC separated from probably the most wanted verbal commit - QB Matt Corral - in a surprise move just a few weeks ago.

So clearly SC is still evaluating everyone.

SC staffs have always been comfortable with letting kids officially visit other schools, and make final decisions later. They want every kid to be sure of their decision.

And SC continues to recruit every position to be sure they are getting the right guy. And they know there will be other elite recruits who will be interested in the Trojans later in the process.

Obviously, there are verbal commits on board right now who SC wants to be in the final class.

But I think they are willing to wait until February to get their signatures.

Great, great thread, but tough to comment. Love all the guys, but some will not be taken for sure. Whoever is a commit now, is a commit.

What if a recruit wants to sign early and the staff tells them wait till February, does the recruit wait or sign elsewhere?

It would upset some recruits, but if the staff is upfront then most would be fine.

Is this early period good for schools or players?
