Is it prudent to hire a coach who has a worse record than the guy we all want to see canned?

Nothing against Charlie Strong, but if we are going to can Helton for going 5-7 in his last season, do we hire a guy who had a similar record all three years at Texas?

I recall plenty of talk here about Herm Edwards.....so far, he looks like a pretty good hire at ASU.

I think you are wrong, I do not think anybody here would protest the hiring of a black coach, if he or she were good. Nobody squawked about hiring Bibby, Raveling, and a few others.....up for discussion if they were good hires, but nobody squawked about race. Nobody urged diversity either.

Dave Aranda isn't a white guy and his name has been mentioned quite a bit.

David Shaw is a good idea! I like him overall because he has always been known for strong physical lines on both sides. At times, he makes perplexing decisions but when you have dominance on the offensive line and the defensive line (especially given the type of lineman we can recruit at USC), you always have a chance to go far. Dominance on the line of scrimmage is the best possible foundation you can put down.

2 posters in this thread are a microcosm of what is wrong with this country right now.
1 is a troll string up shit the other legitimately thinks decisions should be made based on race.

    James Franklin.jpg

Are you kidding? lol. James Franklin has been the name I've heard the most. In fact he has to be in the Top 3 in terms of favorites to get the job at USC if it's available. Assuming he is interested. He would be a good choice but He's no Urban Meyer.

This is my best guess list of probable hires if I had to wager.
    1. Urban Meyer
    2. Bob Stoops
    3. James Franklin

    Pulled this off a Bio:
"On January 11, 2014, Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin was hired as the 16th Penn State head football coach. He is the first African American head football coach at Penn State. In Franklin's first year, the NCAA lifted Penn State's postseason ban and the Nittany Lions were bowl eligible"

Nevada resident reporting in: if you're hiring a hooker you're probably justified in some plumbing requirements.

Hate to break it to you, but in the last 30 years, there's never been anyone they really wanted who didn't find a way to "become eligible."

Not true. There are only two schools in the country from what I have read on multiple recruiting sites who mandate that the player must first clear admissions before being able to get a committable offer to the football team. Those two schools are Stanford and UCLA. You can look it up if you don't believe me.
