BREAKING NEWS: U.S. PROSECUTORS CHARGE CHINA’S HUAWEI WITH RACKETEERING; COMPANY ALLEGEDLY RECRUITED U.S. PROFESSORS TO STEAL TECHNOLOGY
    by Kevin Ryan

Federal prosecutors have charged China’s Huawei Technologies, the world’s largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer, and two U.S. subsidiaries with conspiracy to violate the RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act.

The 16-count indictment also includes a charge of conspiracy to steal trade secrets and technology via fraud and deception from U.S. counterparts. The stolen intellectual property included copyrighted works, such as internet router source code, cellular antenna technology, and robotics.

    The company would allegedly:

    • Recruit professors working at U.S. research institutions to obtain and provide technology to Huawei.

    • Enter into confidentiality agreements with the owners of intellectual property and then violate the terms of the agreements by stealing the intellectual property for Huawei’s own commercial use.

    • Recruit employees of other companies and direct them to steal their former employers’ intellectual property.

By stealing technology, Huawei was able to drastically cut its research and development costs, giving the company a significant and unfair competitive advantage.

Today’s announcement, along with yesterday’s revelation that the U.S. is investigating several universities for allegedly hiding payments from China, represents a major new front in the Trump Administration’s battle against unfair and illegal trade practices by other countries, many of which acted with impunity during prior administrations.

I have to wonder if weaponizing the Justice Department will have any affect in overcoming the advantages inherent in a command economy. China is so far ahead of the US in the patenting and copy protection for their IP, the US has zero chance of bridging the gap technologically.

The US developed the World Trade Organization to gain consensus for countering the exact issues being raised in this complaint. There is irony that the man who single-handedly destroyed the WTO is going to use the DOJ to replace it. Of course, the world knows that Huawei isn't stealing US IP. The US is simply trying to delay Huawei's standards from being accepted around the world.

In hindsight, I wonder if Trump regrets cutting DOE research funding 43% when he passed his tax cut?

Sorry folks, but the US is years away from rolling out 5G. We will fall way behind other countries that have made 5G a priority.

It's the government's job to "roll out 5G?" I thought that's what tech companies were for.

Good to see that you are coming around. I agree that Trump should get out of the way and allow the best technology to control. Right now, Huawei owns all of the technology and while Verizon is rolling out 4G technology and calling it 5G, Huawei could be delivering the real thing. But, this is what happens when Fascism is implemented.

Trump can order the trains to run on time; but the rest of the world is moving on.

American Companies manufacture in China and we do not expect China to use what they learn? No one forced Apple to make phones in China. Any American company would do the same thing.

Bottom line is the system in place has given us the greatest economy ever, so why does Trump think he can fix it.

So which is it? It's the Feds' job to build 5G? Or it's the communication/tech companies? What's the government's record on picking winners?

Or we could go with your method of encouraging innovation: tax away their profits.

You're partially right: it's been the greatest economy ever for the past 3 years.

If we are such Dumb fucks why would China waste their time and money?

"The Education Department has opened investigations into Harvard and Yale, after finding that U.S. universities have failed to report at least $6.5 billion in foreign funding from countries such as China, Russia, and Iran. Yale alone failed to disclose at least $375 million in foreign funding."

Just to set the record straight, I am all for Corporations paying zero taxes. But, before they cut the tax rate to zero, I want Sec 409A of the tax code repealed.

There was a time period where US Universities provided such an education gap that US companies could argue standards for years (See cloud standards) and still release code faster than the rest of the world. Those days are gone and command economies have a tremendous advantage in being first to market.

The scenario will change as the US innovates; but innovation requires capital commitments that don't exist today. You only need to review the productivity numbers (1.9% in latest report) to understand that we not making the commitment to innovate as a country.

Lets thank Trump . ok,, what did he do for the market leaders, Tesla, Google, Facebook, Apple and Amazon other than try to ruin their business. On the other hand, we saw the biggest private coal compnay go BK, Oil has been a loser, Manufacturing is down and farmers needed a 25 billion bailout. But I give all the credit to Trump for this amazing economy.

Not following. Trump has been great for the companies you mentioned. Kinda obvious, isn't it? They've certainly prospered. $11T (that's with a T) has been added to our wealth just from the stock market. You've seen all the metrics. Not sure how you're getting that the economy is worse than it was 3 years ago, but you're pretty creative, I guess.

Idiot: You don't have to be dumb all the time. Last year, China had 1.3 million patent filings, double the US filings.
