    Well, they're off!

The high school football season is in full swing.

Here are a few highlight plays made by some SC commits and So. Calif. recruits the over the past week:

    * QB Bryce Young to WR Bru McCoy - it was "pitch and catch" for these two in romp over Bishop Gorman:

    * QB DJ Uiagalelei to WR Kris Hutson - more "pitch and catch" for recruit Uiagalelei and commit Hutson:

    * RB Jordan Wilmore (Lawndale HS) - 99 yard TD run (272 yards rushing vs. Sierra Canyon)

    * WR Kyle Ford (Orange Lutheran HS) - OLu may have lost to Centennial . . . but Ford can flat go get it:

    * DL Drake Jackson (Centennial HS) - Jackson helped beat the powerful Orange Lu offense

    * RB Kenan Christon (Madison HS) - ran wild in a 62 - 0 win:

    * DL/OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux (Oaks Christian HS) -

    https://twitter.com/i/status/1030470349010296832

    * CB Chris Steele (St. John Bosco HS) - laid out several receivers in Bosco's win over Timpview

    Bonus:

    * DB Ke'Juan Markham (LB Poly HS)

I've heard of 3 Ints in a game . . . but NEVER (3) pick 6s in a game, as Poly stunned Narbonne HS:

    Helix,
Could you update status of Sean Rhyan OL SJC?
He could be one of the significant recruits with the OL
    Needing to be improved
The line doesn’t get enough press

I was very impressed watching Drake Jackson on Friday and didn't know he was on our radar.

It is not a stretch to say that Rhyan is SC's #1 OLine recruit.

He plays the recruiting game close to the vest, and will not take his official
visits until after the HS season in December and January.

He has commented, though, that SC is one of his top schools.

I watched DJ Friday night. I have not seen a lot of top high school qb’s. He seemed far superior to Kessler, who I did see. Tough to judge a player when team is so superior to opponent. He seemed more advanced than other SC commits and recruits.

Wow, I didn't follow this game over the weekend but that is impressive. Narbonne just haven't recovered from that beating they took in Hawaii.

With three starters due to graduate, there will be movement and space on the depth chart. I'd love to see him be a key building block of this year's class.

LOL at the camera work on those highlights. Anything is better than nothing, but whomever was operating the camera on those shots is apparently new to the job.

He was absolutely exhausted after that last pick. But he didn't go down --- he stayed on his feet and found that last little bit of burst he needed to score that third TD. Reminds me of Cam Smith's game against Utah a couple of years ago. If they keep throwing it into your hands, keep scoring TD's until they stop.

Watch the games from last season when he went against a Mater Dei defense who had equal talent. Not saying DJ looked bad in the games but he definitely didn’t look like the all world QB everyone seems to think he is. His real test will come again against MD this season and their loaded defense.

    Hmmm . . .

In two games last season against Mater Dei, probably the best team in the country, DJ Uiagalelei was:

    (32-53) for 429 yards and 4 TDs, 0 Ints.

Against other top teams (Rancho Cucamonga and Centennial) he was:

    (43-62) for 647 yards and 7 TDs, 1 Int

So in four games against the top teams in the state, he was (75-115) for 1,076 yards and 11 TDs, 1 Int.

For a SOPHOMORE, I'm going to go ahead and say those are All World numbers.

Indeed, another test will occur against MD this season.

I think DJ will be ready.

In USC's offense he's better off concentrating on passing. If he's considered a dual-threat then he needs to get that out of his head. Command the pocket, learn everything about reading defenses, and run when it's there. USC does not develop their dual-threat talent nor will they commit to it. The fact speaks for itself.

Uiagalelei has run the ball (4) times in two games . . . he's not trying to be a runner.

Trojan QB commit Bryce Young has run the ball (8) times in two games . . . he's not trying to run the ball either.

Those are not "dual threat" numbers.

Watch these kids play . . . they both know what they're doing in the pocket.

Not sure what you negative guys are watching, as far as DJ. That kid is good. With a cannon arm.....with two years to go.

He’s not a dual threat, where’d that come from? He’s just a big boy who is relatively hard to take down....for many high school guys. He’s can roll and move, but he’s not going to make his hay running.

    He’s big time.
