[QUOTuE="USCHusbandUCLAWife, post: 1018358, member: 1703"]I have two follow-up questions for Baghdad Bob ... I mean Clay Helton:

    (2) If recruiting linemen wins championships, why didn't you recruit more of them the last two years?[/QUOTE]

Two years ago, Clay wasn't willing to bring in a recruiting class full of 3* O-linemen. He struck out on all the elite OL they were chasing. Now, all Clay can get are 3 stars, so he'll happily accept their signatures.

He's won 2/3 of his games. He is just as successful as the previous two USC coaches. In the last 50 years, USC has had only 3 great coaches. Remember that winning and losing is a zero sum game. The average coach wins 50% of his games. If Helton has won 2/3 of his, why should he believe that he "just can't do this"?

Then he better do it. NO EXCUSES!

But we all know he ain't going to beat Whore-gone. And there will probably be a bad loss to another Pac-12 team, like ASU.

Those percentages would be good at ASU, Cal, WSU type of programs. At a blueblood like USC.....not happening. Clay knows what he's gotten into, and, so far, hasn't been able to take the necessary measures to correct things. There's a reason fifteen of his assistant coaches have been fired the past couple seasons.

IMHO the new DL coach hire must be a good one: (1) there is talent in the returning D-Line and a good coach could really make that unit a strong one; (2) if the new coach isn't able to relate to the players there are several who could jump ship in the transfer protocol next year.
