So they are using the 3 open coaching spots to hire CB, DL and ST coaches. It pretty much confirms that Orlando will coach the LBs. So if Claiborne wants to come he has to come as GA.

I think Claiborne would fit best as a graduate assistant at this point. He still has very little experience coaching at this point.

We left spots open in order to bet on the "come?" Nothing to do with everybody turning us down? Nor with targeting the wrong guys and delays in offering?

He needs a new spin master

Can we believe this rosy picture we're being fed or is it just more Texas style PR?

LOL, sounds like a lame excuse for Helton's failed recruiting. He was only able to sign one player, so make it appear its by design and go after the Portal "Rejects". What a clown!

Clay was able to sign Yary. One player at a position you don't need.

This dude wanted to be a Trojan so bad he would have probably come as Blue Shirt.

And Clay is Calling it a win.

Did the shrinking violet, Clay Helton, report in from an undisclosed bunker?

Erik, if I read your story corrected did Todd Orlando select the 'to be announced' special teams coordinator?

Are GA's allowed to recruit? Either way my fear is that another P12 team will hire him to coach LB's.

So are you saying that we should have told a Trojan legacy, top ten TE in the country (according to a couple of recruiting services), top 25-30 player in the State of California, that he should come in as a Blue Shirt...when he had offers from other major programs? That would have been a joke and a huge insult to Jack Yary and his family. Probably would have been the final nail in the coffin for this program. Bottom line is that we still needed a TE and Jack Yary is a great get. I won't undersell that just because I think Helton is incompetent as a HC. As we have seen with our so called deep RB corps, you can have a couple of injuries and then you're left playing walk-ons. Plus, we will lose at least two TEs after this coming season. Call a spade a spade.

    http://www.espn.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/235288/jack-yary

Yary had offers from LSU, Auburn, Oregon, Nebraska, Utah, Tennessee, North Carolina, ASU, Colorado, Cal, Okie St., among many others. https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2020/jack-yary-211607

I have two follow-up questions for Baghdad Bob ... I mean Clay Helton:
    (1) In another interview (Rivals), you claimed that sticking to 83 scholarships was your plan. Do Drennan and Shapen know this?
    (2) If recruiting linemen wins championships, why didn't you recruit more of them the last two years?

“Two years ago, it would have been hard to get Todd Orlando,” Helton said. “He’s one of the best defensive coordinators in the country.”

My gosh. That's probably totally honest, but really, really pitiful. "He used to be highly valued, but not anymore and that's why USC got him" is the translation. I generally defend Helton from the more irrational attacks against him, but . . . . wow.

The only way I defend Helton is on the proper way to fire him. Either an ignominious firing by Twitter or a dignified kick up his butt-tocks on the PacXII network where obviously no one will see.

I still can't figure out why so many folks are so surprised by anything that Gomer does/does not do. He's bullet-proof, guys. He's gonna get paid $Millions regardless of what the players, or fans, or alumni want. He's got support from Donkey and Shrek. Game over!! Settle in and enjoy the buffoonery. There should be much more to come in the near future.

At what point does he simply throw up his hands and admit to himself "I can't do this," and step aside? He's got to have plenty of money by now. I don't understand why he keeps "coaching" USC. He is not wanted by most fans. Why does he insist on delaying the inevitable? Does he really think he can win championships? Of what, besides the city championship vs. the even more pitiful Ruins?

Well, that's the public perception. Sure hope she's starting to see that he's not wonderful as SC Football Coach.
