Forget about the past. Let's only look at 2021 and forward. Who will have more success over the next two seasons? (and folks, unless Helton REALLY steps on his dick and goes 3-9 or some such, I think it's likely he sticks around for 2022 as long as he's 7-5 or better this coming season)

Also, if Sark has really become what a lot of people down south think he has become, then he has a chance to build something special at Texas.

I mean his only responsibility has been to run the offense at Bama...under CLOSE supervision from Nick Saban. I imagine if Bama thought he wasn't replaceable, they would have done something to force him to stay (i.e. sabotage his vetting). Running the offense under supervision is VERY different from being responsible for everything regarding the program at a blue blood like Texas. The fans in Austin won't have a lot of patience after the prior two failed head coaches.

(If by "next year" you get technical and mean 2022, then yes) I think, barring a total disaster of a season, say 4-8 or worse, he will keep his job, What seems likely is that our zombie program will continue shuffling along at a 7-5 clip. It's not quite dead, but it's not really alive, either.

"I definitely want to be the playcaller. I will be the playcaller," Sarkisian recently told the Austin American-Statesman. "I made that mistake one year of my career [in 2015 at USC]. It won't happen again, not in the near future."

It was the last season during which I really got excited. Too bad it was our last truly good season. When a coach peaks in his first season, it shouldn’t be enough to save his job after 5 subsequent years of steady decline. Peete2Affholter likes this.

Something along the lines of 9-3 or 8-4 with a bowl win. Something that, to outsiders just looking at W-L and scores, looks pretty good. However, if the scores in the losses are predictable blowouts to actual good teams, we will know we are still in Helton's purgatory. Also, I do feel that, even if he goes 7-5, THAT will be enough if he pulls off an exciting win or two like he has this past season.

Being saddled with Soft Serve for another year or two because of a better than .500 record and an exciting win or two against inferior, bottom of the barrel teams. That's Helton magic! Relying on last second 50 yarders, one in a million bounces, or mental breakdowns to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat!

That is the absolute worst-case scenario. I can live with maybe 11-3 and 12-2. I don't think he gets either of those, but who knows. If you want Helton gone, we are going to have to lose at least 4 games.
