    I mean post substance addiction.
I suspect he is going to turn out to be pretty good for Texas.

The jury is still out on Sark being a winning HC. Helton? its 12-0 guilty af for being a bible thumping loser of a HC. At this point you dump Helton for anything.

Neither. Helton is just not a good coach in any position. Sark is best at Coordinator.

Think Sark post Saban school for HC will do well if he stays in AA. Only moron Pat would hire him when everyone in Seattle knew his problems. SC is so leaderless.

How long have you been around SC?
I have been around the program since the early 1980's.
Even though Hackett didn't win much here he left the program in a better position than when he took over. If you ever have the time check out his recruiting classes.
Pete Carroll could inherit this USC team and wouldn't win a huge bowl game in his second year.

Hackett brought in two elite football players. One of them was just admitted into the College HoF and the other is a Pro HoF

Do you know why Helton couldn't maintain that level.

Most of those players were guys brought in under Sark.
If Helton was the guy he could have maintain that level of excellence. He couldn't.

Wish things happened different with Sark. The guy did help us but he couldn't stay as a coach.

I would much rather have had Darnold play under him than Helton.

As for me since late 60's. Hackett may have landed a few good recruits but had no clue on how to coach them. In Paul's last year you could tell Palmer had talent but under Hackett was playing well below his capabilities. Pete Carroll had no problem farming his own recruits.

What's saddest for me is that this kind of question is even being asked! Why a choice between those two? USC doesn't deserve either one! (and I don't mean deserve in a positive way...)

Well, ok, that and the coach that Helton is being most compared to is Hackett! Seriously?!?! Even if Helton comes out on top in that comparison, it doesn't say much for him that he's brought up as any sort of comparison to that old Hack... Speaks volumes.

    He improved the program.
The program he gave to Carroll was better than the one he inherited from John Robinson.

I can't say that about Clay Helton. I know you defend him as much as you can but the program right now isn't as good as the one he inherited.

He hasn't done the job that was asked of him and has made it tough to win regardless of who we hire

3 years after Hackett we won a NC.

If you have been around USC that long you should know that coaches blend into each the first 2 years.

It is truly a sad state of affairs when a school’s fans are reduced to debating the merits between a drunken opoid addict and a walking bewildered stiff.

The fans are in this position because the Admin just doesn’t care. It is crazy, USC has a historic well accepted brand, and the Board is neglecting that brand willfully. You’re Ford, you build cars and trucks for 100 years, and now the board decides to start baking cupcakes instead.

    McClellan, or Burnside?

Yeah lol it's bad when we are comparing the merits of two horribly bad coaches.

The difference is that Hackett was only around for 3 years. Helton has been here twice as long.

Hackett's best season was his first at 8-5. No winning seasons after that. Helton had all winning seasons except for one. There's the big difference.

Not sure what his faith has to do with his coaching. When did that become a slur to insult someone? He is most definitely not a good HC for this team, but few will argue he isn't a coach with a high level of integrity and honesty. That said, you can do much worse than Helton. For example, Sark. He will have Texas' offense rolling, but he doesn't possess the necessary discipline and leadership skills for the job. He no longer has Nick Saban looking over his shoulder micromanaging him.

Still wonder how Clay didn’t notice that fake player that Donna put on the team, so much for honesty.
