If I had to pick between the two I'd take a new ST coach first.

I'm a JT Daniels fan but not even Helton could be that blind.

They're going to have all three of them plus Christon. Nice problem to have.

Finally, some great news. Let’s hope he can turn some recruits...

Dows anyone know what he was getting paid before? Trying to understand the level of added financial commitment since the Helton fiasco. I think admins and the board had no choice but to pay up. Which is great news. If we get less injuries the offense could shine next year. Stupid penalties, lack of turnovers and lack of defensive adjustments will probably still be there.

Great line! How many times during CP's tenure has our D yielded a first down on a third and 10+ situation? It seems that it has happened so often that I have come to dread those situations. We need a new, imaginative DC that will allow our guys to use their natural aggression instead of that vanilla, "bend and then break" product that we have now.

I completely agree with this sentiment. Stepp can produce a reliable 5-6 yards and forces the defense to honor the run. In third and short it's not guaranteed that we have to pass if he's in the backfield. I thought something was said during the season about him having ball security issues. This is a coaching issue. Besides, Carr gives me more worries in that area than does Stepp.

Did Helton realize the offense stunk or was he forced to make changes by Swann? It seems like he tends to have trouble identifying issues of weakness and lacks the ability or willingness to pro-actively move to improve them.

If CCH starts JT then the media alone would drive CCH out of town

Regarding the non-squib kick, I screamed at my TV the moment the ball was kicked. If I knew that, with seconds left on the clock you don't kick it deep, HCCH should've known. It has to be the single dumbest thing he's done.

Are you watching football? Every Saturday/ Sunday teams are giving up 3rd and longs, good teams, bad teams. All are getting burned. Coaches these days let it rip on 3 and long instead of draw plays or screens. New world.

Great deal. I've forgotten what it was like for something good to happen to us.
Next November it'll be "Interim Head Coach Graham Harrell."

^^^^^THIS. With GH as OC this team will win 8 games minimum in a weak PAC 12. They will still struggle against the Zeroes, Utes, and Huskies, but a good DC could change that. The problem will be the recruiting classes moving forward. Will Helton be able to recruit enough talent? I don't know.

Best case scenario we get a DC that can recruit the hell out of California and keep the defensive talent here. That is the only way it will work with Helton, you have to take both sides of the ball out of his control and hope he learns how to game manage because, right now, he is the worst in the Pac 12 at game management.

So you’re saying you weren’t impressed with Helton’s results from focusing on penalties and turnovers? What's wrong with you? 114th and 121st in the country not good enough for you??

Sheesh. Don’t understand the optimism behind a multi-year extension. That effectively tanks any notion of a top HC coming to SC. Effectively, the extension says Gomer will be with us through his contract.
