That’s awesome and funny. What do you say back? Go trees? Go cardinal?

I really hope that we hold strong on Trojans and fight on. At the rate we are getting rid of symbols and speech the Trojan and saying might be a little too aggressive....this is only a little bit tongue in cheek.

    Too funny.

Spoke with a Stanford alum once. They say, "Go Cards" at games or parties.

Stanford is known as the Farm (built on the original farm land of the founders, Stanford family) and their mascot the Tree as for (big Sequoia Tree) located on their campus.

In the beginning, Stanford's nickname was "Indians", but due to native Indian backlash, Stanford scrambled to changed their nickname. In 1972, Stanford chose their new nickname, Cardinal (school color). They almost picked nicknames, Griffins, Sequoias, Robber Barons.

The name Furd, was invented by Cal students for their big rivalry FB games as a derogatory name. Furd = Stanfurd, some say it means FU or Fuck U. In turn, Stanford students call them Kal or Weenies. Pretty silly stuff, but that's college kids for you.

One of my high school coaches played with Jim Plunkett at Stanford on the O-line. As a punishment drill we had to do "Farms" which consisted of 10 up-downs every 5 yards for about 300 yards. Guys were puking and hallucinating from heat exhaustion during the Farms. Times change. Now a coach would be fired or worse for such actions.

Only reply to stanfurd people is "f%^& off."

McKay wanted to beat them 2,000 to nothing. That says a lot.

For me, my top 2 hatred opponents are: Oregon and Notre Dame. With Oregon by a wide margin. For the life of me I can't stand that school. Every time USC plays the Duckies, I want our boys crush them badly...

IIRC, McKay's comment was in response to when he took his team up to play Stanford in the early 70s, and was walking to the stadium before the game alongside Anthony Davis. The racist abuse hurled at AD was especially vile and got McKay's hackles up.

I had always thought of Stanford as a "meh" opponent (in terms of me hating them) until Jim Harbaugh became their coach. Harbaugh is a dick, and his teams took on his personality. Now, I dislike them nearly as much as the Bruins.

I'm in agreement with you here. Always liked John Ralston a lot and have known a lot of his players from his tenure. They respected the guy and over-achieved for him. After him it was a terrible run for HC's there. Harbaugh changed everything for that program, good and bad. But now I see Shaw as an arrogant guy but a class act overall, so I don't consider it a "bitter" rivalry in the least. "What's your deal" is long gone for me.

I started hating Stanford when they caved in to political correctness and dropped the Indians as their mascot.

Well, given the makeup of their student body now, "Indians" may be more apt than ever...

Wonder when the Cleveland Indians become the Cleveland Rockers or Rollers?
