I know this is on everyone’s mind. Can we find a strong 5 for 2021, and do we have another first rounder in the rough? Hope so.

No mention of Jason Rodriguez? Is he working exclusively at guard? In any case, I would like to see Rodriguez replace McKenzie at RT.

I don't remember Jason Rodriguez being mentioned at LT. I thought he was being groomed more for either RT or one of the guard spots. Either way, I think he'll definitely see some playing time in 2021 and that he'll have one of the starting spots locked up by spring '22. It just seems like it takes longer for offensive lineman to develop at this level. To me it always seems like things really don't start clicking for most college offensive lineman until year number 3.

I felt like McKenzie regressed a little last season with the move out to right tackle. If he moves over to left tackle, he is going to have to show a lot of improvement or the o line is going to have struggles next season.

Seems like a good fit. It's easy for us to forget that Jason is still only a R/S Frosh. That is super young for offensive lineman at this level. The position just requires so much technical and physical development. There's a reason why most good starting college offensive lines are usually filled with upperclassmen.

He also got a lot of penalties at especially inopportune times.

I think you might include center too. A lot of us would like to see Dedich compete with Neilon for the starting spot.

Rodriguez is one of the few four star offensive linemen we have. I would hate for him to be sitting on the bench. I know he is young, but it is up to the coaches to develop his potential and get him ready to play. Plus a lot of our guys have started early in their careers, like AVT and Austin Jackson.

I hear that but nothing that Neilon has done points to him being a weak link, but I'd be okay with Dedich being the starter if he wins the spot.

Austin and AVT are the exception, not the norm. Even AVT needed time before he was the #1 guy. That's a guy who will be drafted in the top half of the first round and he wasn't a full-time starter until his third year in the program.

I'm with you. The Dedich thing has always annoyed me. Do the coaches think he's too small/short or something?

I'm just surprised Dedich didn't put his name in the portal. I thought we'd see Murphy, ITS, and Dedich testing the transfer water. Glad I was wrong!

True. It wasn't until his third year that we saw AVT was going to be a future 1st round pick. With Jason going into his third year, it's possible he could turn out to be a future first round pick as well. But he needs a chance to shine. How can he do that if he is stuck behind Vorhees at LG?

What’s the story with Vorhees? He came in with the last great group of OL recruits and was himself a high 4 star. Could he play LT? Is he a lock for one of the guard spots?

Based on those names let’s be honest. We have 3 guys vying for the LT gig. Not 4.

When we are talking about starting FR like Ford or Courtland and playing returnees like Voorhees who haven't lived up to the billing I believe Rodriguez deserves just as much a chance to earn a spot. He has the potential to be great and to be honest some of our returning OL haven't played good enough to not have their spots up for grabs.
