Devin Asiasi transferring

According to a twitter post Mount Pharma, Asiasi is transferring to USC!

 

Can't recall details of this player? Didn't we recruit him ?

 

I'm not sure I'd put too much stock in a buckeye shit stirrer.

 

He decided between us and Michigan last year. He is listed as a TE, also played DE at Concord De LaSalle. According to another circulation he is at the beginning stages and strongly considering leaving UM and transferring to USC.

I thought we were at 85, what about Lang's grey shirt, that should take priority.

 

NO WAY!!! This kid was the monster that got away last year. A beast! We put him at DE and call it a day. Come on down! Poly pipeline!!!

 

The more I think about it, he may not have a place with us. We are stacked at TE for quite some time, with blockers and pass catchers. Unless he's open to a different position, it would be hard to justify bringing him in. I wish he would have come to his senses before he committed. Stanford and Cal are closer to Concord, where he is from. And OR is DESPERATE for a TE right now. Maybe he goes that route.

 

Wherever he goes, if he transfers when can he play?

 

This should be a wake up call to all western state players and Poly kids-don't go east for college! I've lived in the South, and let me tell you, it's hell on earth. TUA is going to find out the hard way at AL. He chose that school because of the family atmosphere and the emphasis on religion??? As if you can't find that on the West Coast. When will these kids learn?!

Michigan message boards are pretty seriously discussing that he's leaving like it's a done deal but nothing official yet.

 

Hearing family issues? Not sure where he fits in but the guy is a monster. Could be a great mentor to Falo.

 

I believe he looked at USC, UCLA and Michigan... He's friends with UCLA's Boss Tagaloa if I'm not mistaken. We definitely don't want him transferring to UCLA.

True, I live in Alabama and I can't wait to get out this hell hole and move back to the Bay in a few years. Southern hospitality is just a rumor not a real thing.

 

I may be in the minority but I hope he does not come to USC. It would be great to have him on the team but I'm against herding talented players who could have a future in the NFL.

He would be better suited going to Cal or Stanford.

That's a deep roster at TE. How many TE's do you want to keep on your roster?

If Asiasi came to USC, would he or someone else move to another position? Would someone like Angeline or Krommenhoek see the writing on the wall and transfer?

 

He's what 265lbs now.. I always thought he would grow to 280lbs or 290lbs and end up on the DL anyways. He's a pretty thick guy and has the body type to pack on some lbs..

Alabama does not care how many 5 stars they have at 1 position they being them in and let them compete. I say if he's talented bring him in and the best man will play.

 

In any given year USC have used 2 TEs H, U whatever you call it. Last year we used 3 TEs D. Imatorbhebhe, Petite and that other guys (name I can't recall at the moment). Not so long ago we had Telfer and Grimble used together and they both made the league. 3 TE rotation is a must and 4th one should be ready to step in. Why not bring him in if he wants to come. Wasn't he thw #1 TE last year? I remember everyone wanting this guy last year.

 

From some ppl I have talked to is that Michigan is at 2-3 scholarships over the 85 cause Harbaugh already knew of kids transferring out and academic casualties. Devin is one of those kids supposed to be on the outs. There is rumor of a family issue and rumor of just wanting to leave to change position to DL., difference with coaching staff, etc.
not sure on SZc's scholie count. I kept hearing at NSD we would be ALMOST to 85 and we would be at 85 or 86. SC hasn't released anything official and won't probably till fall. Now that Terrance Lang is going to Colorado SC could be bringing in Asiasi at DL, but they are also monitoring the Brendan Fehoko situation closely but haven't offered a visit or schollie to either.

 

Latest news shows him at 272 lbs, Michigan's best TE, but I look him at the D side of the ball, though he went to Michigan because he wanted to play TE. Do you really think Harbaugh (think Jimbo) would release him without limitations to his destination (USC)?

 

Ideally Pendergast and USC would like to rotate five-to eight Dl during a game without a drop off.

 

If I had to pick, I'd bring him on, make him lose about 15lbs and turn him into a FB/TE/H-Back like they use at Ohio State.
Use him to create a mismatch in the passing game, or to open holes in the run game.

I don't like that he has to be stuck in one spot, hell Adoree didn't have a position on offense.
He lined up everywhere and we found ways to get him the ball.
This could be another weapon (a BIG one) for OCTM and Darnold to use to make our offense that much more versatile.

 

Yes we're deep at TE but there's isn't a coach in America who wouldn't give Asiasi a roster spot. He is very talented and could very well be the best of the bunch. Plus he's already been an initial counter so he helps us get to 85. Amazingly last year we were still a few scholarships short of 85 because the 25 annual limit combined with kids entering the draft early has made it difficult to catch up. We aren't recruiting anymore TE's for a while anyway. Also as many posters have suggested he could potentially play other positions as well. FB makes a lot of sense to me.

 

Are you willing to dump MCKenzie for him?
We are at 84 players with our 23 commits. If McKenzie is added as a blueshirt we are at 85, with no room for a transfer.

 

RealAirbns , just repeating comments from Michigan posters, listed as alt 1st string w/ Wheatley. Was their primary blocking TE last year, hence lack of touches but did have 2 TDs. He does weigh over 270 lbs now

 

Are you guys sure its USC and not our crosstown rivals? Didn't Mora hire Michigan assistant Jedd Fisch to be there OC? Maybe Asiasi could be following Jedd? But if this is true about him coming to USC I can see him competing at TE or DE. Thats what the Pete Carroll era was like. It doesn't matter how many blue chip players we had during Petes era; the job went to the best player right? It doesn't hurt to have the best of the best compete against eachother.

It should be noted that 3 of the scholarships are to walk ons who got scholarships. So there are 82 full scholarships.

So if one of them do not need the scholarship, it would be possible to bring him in.

But if TE is full, it would be at another position. FB?

 

Size seems irrelevant. 15 years ago we had Alex Holmes as a 270# te.

FWIW, Michigan boards aren't reporting any smoke re Asiasi to USC, just that Asiasi is leaving, or indeed has already left, A2.

If he transfers to ucla, that would suck.

Unfortunately as soon as it was announced the first place that comes to mind is the ruins.......they have no TE's and plenty of roster room.

 

I wouldn't entertain this DA transfer nonsense at all. He could have come a year ago if he had wanted to compete here. He didn't. So now if he comes, USC has to burn a schollie for a year while he redshirts. Seems a silly use of money and a valuable spot. You end up getting two years of service for the price of three. Seems like the train left a year ago and we like the guys we got who WANTED to be here.

 

UCLA is a dumpster fire. Rosen will be gone by the time he's eligible, and Mora's future is tenuous at best. I'd be surprised if it's UCLA.

I do think schollies are at a premium given the residual effects of sanctions, but I would use one for Asiata. Kid is a monster.

 

If I was going to burn a scholarship for next year it would be on Fehoko even if DA is a better talent.

We have a deep group at TE, but you can never be too deep along the trenches.

Now the caveat is if DA comes here to play D-line, or if he's already at 280 maybe he can move inside a spot a play OT. He would have a full year to learn the spot.

 

UCLA or Cal would seem to be the best bet. We`re stacked at TE, and it`s not clear what position he wants to play if he leaves.
