They didn't do themselves any favors by getting rid of coach Gillespie. He was a tough SOB but got the most out of his teams and was a great recruiter.

If that were true he would have had more than 1 NCAA championship in what 18 or 19 years.

Yes. I think it was time for Gillispie to move on. We missed out on Savage. I don't know if we will ever return to greatness.

Yeah, the program has had so much success since he left. All of those wins and CWS trips and major league stars - definitely time for Mike to move on. After all, anyone can win at SC. Just ask those who followed him...

Savage, as in Mike's former assistant?

As in ucla's Championship coach. One who USC tried to rehire recently but were turned down. Letting Savage walk was a mistake as proven by what he has done over there.

If Gillespie hadn't been chased out of town by the current athletic director of Langston University Savage would never have gotten the recruits he's gotten at UCLA. In fact, it's unlikely Savage would have accepted the job. I dream of the day when USC hires a professional athletic director instead of an ex jock.

I don't follow your logic. What does Gillespie getting fired have to do with the recruits Savage got at ucla? SC didn't offer Savage the managers job. Instead they offered it to Gillespie's son in law Kreuter. Another mistake.

I do agree the MG's handling of the baseball program was dismal.
