I agree. I could see JDR as Head Coach and keep Graham and his OFF (since we wouldn't buy him out after the extension)...it might be a nice mix of old and new.

Just asking for a friend but do you REALLY think an de-facto NFL DC is going to come back to SC to be the DB coach? Richard is definitely on the list as an NFL Head Coaching candidate. My guess is the ONLY job Richard would consider at SC is the one Clay has.

true but it’s a risk to assume that every 0.500 NFL coach is Pete Carroll

then again people thought Herman would be competing for a Big 12 title and a college playoff spot in Year 3 which didn’t end up true.

so we don’t know, I do want a coach who has a history of emphasizing physicality and having his assistant coaches uphold their part on X’s and O’s.

What good DC would come to SC? Maybe a young minor school rising star? What coaches have you heard about? Any ideas.

It's pretty clear that Helton is here for at least a couple more years. The team is expected to be playing for the Pac 12 championship next year regardless of who was coaching it. If that happens, Helton stays another year. If the PAC 12 was strong, it would be a bigger risk. But, SC is expected to do well next year, with or without a good 2020 class. Look what happened to Harrell after being here one year. A

This is so true. He would be the only other Pac--12 coach who could take down Coach Whittingham of Utah.

Yes, that's how they think. While a welcome development, it's a smoke screen that shows they still don't get it.

replace Kris Richard with Will Harris. No way is an NFL defensive coordinator taking 2-3 steps down to become a college defensive back coach Hahahah

Replace Kris Richard with Mark Carrier, bring Chris Claiborne in to coach inside linebackers and Bill Romanowski to coach outside linebackers and to intimidate all local recruits into signing with us or risk being thrown through their own front wall.

If JDR went to UCLA, would anyone here want him on our staff?

Replace X with Y and then supplement with Z. These arguments are silly. Let's put some critical eye to these.
First, JDR is interested in the HC job. Maybe he would take a DC position and then take over the HC, but why? He makes a shit ton doing analysis at ESPN, why would he hitch his horse to Claydoh, especially when there is a higher probability to be fired without his participation. If he joined the staff, then Clay has a better chance of retaining his job.
Richard as DB coach? Really? He has an NFL gig that pays better and has better prospects. Yes, please take a pay cut, a title cut, and less chances of being a HC in the NFL. I bet he'd sign up in a minute.
Bill Romanoski? One of the dirtiest players in the game? Yes! We need more personal fouls for the team! We're not quite number one in that category, but we soon will be!
Everyone, just no. We're stuck for a year. Let's not bite on Cowherd's proclamations. And even if real, they will be far more depressing than expected.
    fffffffffpht On.

Lead 2 different NFL teams to the playoffs. How many current coaches can make that claim? No one knows if JDR would be successful at USC. He's not the total loser folks try to make him out to be, though.

Coaching is a results based, bottom line profession. People didn't have a problem with K. Norton when he was here with Pete. I suspect, most would praise JDR or Dick Vermeil/Donahue, if they could lead USC to championships.

It's not about Reggie Bush. Would Carol ("We're going to lose the right way, with integrity") Folt actually roll out the red carpet for somebody that was caught cheating under the USC banner?
