Do all the posters on this board lamenting how USC did not pursue Chip Kelly truly believe he could have made Cody Kessler a reliable quarterback capable of bringing the team back from a deficit in the final minutes?

I think they were bummed that we did not pursue Kelly FOR THIS COACHING SEARCH. Cody is what Cody was and nobody was going to change him this season. I get why many would not want Chip, but could you imagine his offense with USC's talent? Chip was not a fit for the NFL where guys are making millions and can tune him out. In college, he (like Harbaugh) is the supreme leader and kids are coming and going and his message will not wear thin so quickly...

Do we really want to start the Chip Kelly War again? But since you asked...

No, Kelly would not have changed who Kessler is. But Kelly's system makes things very easy for the QB. Even Kessler could have thrived in his style of offense.

More importantly, with Chip Kelly, USC would not have needed to come back late. Chip would have carved up that Wisconsin defense all night long, and USC would have won by three scores. No coach in recent college football history put more pressure on defenses or caused more mismatches for talented skill position players than Chip Kelly. I understand that the majority here want to run the ball off tackle behind a fullback. So be it. But don't kid yourself: Chip Kelly's college offenses were machines. That disorganized mess we saw last night is not something you saw very often from Oregon with Chip at the helm. And he generally had a plan for when a team would blitz a linebacker in the A gap. Don't recall ever seeing Chip's QB get sacked three straight times by three straight blitzes from the same LB.

After Switzer left OU, the Sooners hired a nice, mediocre coach who won 8 games a year. OU fans were pissed. They begged for a return to their roots. They wanted a coach who understood OU football and its traditions. They hired a former OU player, John Blake, who brought back the wishbone. Their fans cheered. Their former players cheered. And Blake won 3 games a year. Eventually, they had enough. They brought in an outsider who completely changed OU's offense to a modern attack. The fan base was so traumatized by Blake's tenure that they didn't complain. They won a national title in year two. Some may try to deny that this story has any significance to current USC football. But I think it does.

For Pete sakes, let it go. The University of Spoiled Children are coming out in droves.

What Chip proved is that he isn't afraid of switching to a better QB. Not to say that our backups would have taken the job, but the returning starting QB's have never been challenged.

Cody and Chip. Sounds like an appetizer served with a margarita. In any event, Kelly at USC was NEVER happening. He wants too much control, too much money, doesn't want to deal with alums and has ncaa baggage. He was NO fit for USC but assuming he had come to University Park, Kessler is in no fashion Kelly's type of QB. Jalen Greene would have been the SC QB in a Kelly run offense.

But this all falls into discussions such as what if Godzilla fought for Paraguay in WWll, would they have won the war and conquered the world?

Who's to say if Chip came to USC the result would not be the same as his most recent gig with the Eagles?

When are we talking about recently or before Chip went to the Eagles? I'm confused.
