Excellent for him, especially given there are no open slots on the defensive coaching staff. Having OC staff hired away is a good indication that they are being developed as future assistant coaches.

Plus he got a big pay jump. Looking at ASU public salary data (its several years old but the only thing I could find). In 2017 ASU Defensive Analyst Jarred Holley was making $35,000 a year while ASU Defensive Back Assistant Coach TJ Rushing was getting $200,000 a year.

I'd have to assume that there's a similar salary difference at USC between a QC Analyst and an Assistant position coach.

This is more like 1 step forward and two steps back!

SC has the opportunity to keep an SC guy that has ties to So Cal schools and can make an impact on the practice field. We have room on the defensive side of the ball for another assistant. Let TD be the DC and keep our guy home. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy for him, but we need this type of individual in our program!

All due respect, there are many many more people with ties to Southern California schools. It's not an all or nothing situation with Claiborne. We have done well with recruiting with and without him. I think folks are exaggerating the impact of CC.

Though I understand why they might hold off, there was the chance to let Colbert coach both WR's and TE's given how we use TE's. That would have left a position open for CC with linebackers. Must have felt he wasn't quite ready at a position we need to develop. Yeah for SC to get him on staff this year and get his big time coaching career started. Hopefully at some point he comes back to SC.

Agree, my heart is there for Chris. Seems like ASU really likes former SC players.

I think we'll have to let this one play out. I hope it does not bite us! Flip side, we do need help in recruiting on the O side. Yes, we'll get our QB's and receivers, but that all. Hopefully McGuire can step it up there!

Maybe spoke soon on the "O" side. Ingram coming in from Texas. Good pick up!

I'm not sweating the loss of CC. He will go and learn from former NFL coaches. I would anticipate a return to SC at some point. Our recruiting will be minimally impacted by his loss and depending on who we bring back in, could be a wash or net gain.

I hope that's the case. He's a good guy and wish him nothing but the best.

I'm bummed Claiborne is moving on, but I would not be comfortable with Colbert coaching the TEs at all, much less WRs too. The TEs were a disaster under his watch in 2019 from which they haven't really recovered. In fact, with only London left from the Big 4, his WR coaching will be tested this season.

I understood your message as USC is lost in doing things wrong because they let him go.
I see a lot of movement with bringing outside people in. As to the topic at hand.....
There simply isn’t room for him at this time. He chose to leave for a better opportunity.
But this is nota sign of incompetence on USCs part. At least I don’t see it as such.

    BOL to him ....

How does SC have any room on the defensive coaching staff? Schools are allowed 10 assistant coaches...
    1. Graham Harrell - Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks
    2. Todd Orlando - Defensive Coordinator / Linebackers
    3. Sean Snyder - Special Teams Coordinator
    4. Clay McGuire - Offensive Line
    5. Keary Colbert - Wide Receivers
    6. Mike Jinks - Running Backs
    7. ???? - Tight Ends
    8. Craig Naivar - Safeties
    9. Donte Williams - Cornerbacks
    10. Vic So'oto - Defensive Line

Also, most teams using an AirRaid like offense have two Wide Receiver coaches - one for outside receives and one for inside receivers (which includes TEs).
