Bundesliga (German soccer league) restarted last weekend.

Two players have tested positive upon the restart of their season. Their team will miss the next game (s?).

One coach was suspended for the opener when he broke isolation prior to the game.

PS: For those that actually follow the sport our American 17 year old, Gio Reyna, was scheduled to make his first start and was injured in warm ups. Major bummer.

I will continue to follow the Bundesliga as I'm sure the college/NFL/& other American sports leagues are as well. Hopefully the two positive tests are an anomaly. Sadly when I think about college players intermingling with other students plus travel.....I think even Alabama etc are going to have a tough time reaching a full season intact.

I wonder if this was a ratings bonanza for Fox given the dearth of live sports options.

The sport might be lame, but those soccer dudes attract some serious poontang from around the world. Hell, even the women soccer players attract lots of poontang.

Of course the point of the thread is mainly the canary in the coal mine aspect, however you are correct. Soccer players score obscene pootie tang.

Yes. But not our beloved football, where men wear skin tight pants, bend over and touch each other every play, groan and grunt and sweat to point of needing supplemental oxygen on the sidelines!

On the serious, though - those players that have tested positive, what is their overall condition? I recall that when those handful of NBA players tested positive, none of them went to the hospital or were even significantly sick in the sense of being bedridden or anything.

So - what's the endgame here? We either shut everything down all over again, just as we were thinking about opening up and restarting, or we just shrug and carry on, giving the Ivan Drago wisdom if someone catches COVID - "If he dies...he dies."

This is why we watch and see. Nobody knows.

Interesting thing about the endless debates on here whether we should or shouldn't and blah blah blah, nobody pays any or very little attention is paid to the actual human element and fact these players cannot get sick for this to work. Here we have an actual league of human beings playing a contact sport w/travel.....we should be watching closely.

Pretty simple, actually. Let COVID-19 spread at will among players and other healthy adults and children. It's the sicker folk with underlying health conditions that are truly at risk. And the more of the healthy that process the virus, the closer we get to "herd immunity" and are better able to protect the truly vulnerable.

Problem with that is, a kid may not know he/she has a condition. It’s a great idea in principle though.

It's a great idea in practice, too. Said kid is more likely to die in an auto accident or shooting.

so the whole point of this sting is to gauge if we can actually have sports. What you are proposing would definitely close the door on having 2020 sports.

    Well that's something to celebrate.

Thank you for your contribution to actually reviewing a petri dish test case scenerio "The bundesliga".

Young men at the height of fitness...zero risk of any of them dying from this.

Thank you for your contribution on whether the Bundesliga, and therefore college FB, will be able to play games and avoid getting sick, missing games, cancelling games, cancelling the whole shebang.

I don't think a chunk of you really care about FB as you cannot seem to stay on topic. This is a thread to gauge the probability of an actually approved season going smoothly. We don't need to talk specifics of what you think might happen, we have an actual test case in progress. Thank you for understanding.

You think somehow we missed that? Of course there may be positives. So? Players might get the flu, broken bones, concussions...the point is for COVID cases to be seen in context as just another health issue we have to deal with.

Remind me: did they cancel CFB during the Spanish Pandemic in 1918? USC was 2-2-2 that year, with an upset loss to Occidental, so perhaps it was the effects of the Spanish Flu that got Dean Cromwell replaced after the season by Gloomy Gus as HC?
