Lazy hire. He's a journeyman. He gets bounced around the league like a basketball. A majority of his carrer is as a LB coach. I think he's been credited with two 2 year stints as DC experience in the NFL each time fired or replaced. Aren't you skeptical about a guy who seems to be looking for a new job every other year? I would prefer an up and coming younger guy who can recruit. He's no Dave Aranda. No real proven track record of being a stable successful DC. At least Clancy had that at one time at Cal and his first years at USC before he got stale like a day old bag of Doritos.

    Can Joe Berry even recruit?
Remember the Urban Meyer rule. Every hire must be a great recruiter first.

It would be a Ho-Hum hire but at this point, who on this staff isn't a Ho-Hum hire?

Joe Barry isn't even in my top 20 as a DC hire. However he's an upgrade over Clancy.

I think everyone was saying similar things about Pete when he was being considered years back.....you just never know.

At this point I would be happy if he just makes us a lot tougher and teaches the boys how to tackle. We may have a new head coach by the end of next year anyway. But you never know. He may work out great?

I’d still take him over Clancy. If he is able to bring with him his NFL people he will be fine. You don’t get to coach an NFL defense if you’re a scrub. Shit if things go south with Helton I’d be OK with Barry being the interim head coach and see what he would be able to do.
