Just about every single sitcom series owes its existence and premise to “ The Honeymooners.” It is still funny today. Kramer from Seinfeld is just a take off of Art Carney’s Ed Norton, and there hasn’t been a more enduring supporting actor on TV yet. A bus driver, a sewer worker, and their long suffering wives.

Even though these three shows were way before my time I'll never forget watching Bonanza, Rawhide, and Death Valley Days with my Grandfather as a kid. RIP Gramps.

Has lasted the test of time. What they accomplished with Desilu to maintain autonomy was unheard of in those days.
Ditto. Along with Sopranos and All in the Family.
I have seen some. Same with Cheers, MASH.
Agreed. Alex P Keaton is one of the all-time great characters.
    True.

Not sure all of those are what I would call TV series. Tonight Show is it's own category. Nothing can touch it IMO.

Easily some of the best writing ever. Newhart was brilliant. I'll add Kramer to that short list of dry comedy.

Cable is now in a zone where "series" are often predetermined as just 1 or 2 seasons. HBO's The Undoing and Showtime's Your Honor both just 1 season, not really much room or place to go with more, but both really good.

That program had a great score, and I loved the narration, which at times turned almost poetic:
    Tarawa, Kwajalein, Eniwetok--War!
    Tarawa, Kwajalein, Eniwetok--Sacrifice!
    Tarawa, Kwajalein, Eniwetok--Victory!

You didn't miss much....neither did I. Rapists, pedophiles, gratuitous violence and nudity/sex.

"Why does the show feature so much sexual violence—most, though not all, directed at women and even young girls?

Obviously part of the answer is that there’s a lot of sexual violence in A Song of Ice and Fire, the series of George R. R. Martin novels on which Game of Thrones is based. Martin has said himself that that though his books are fantasy fiction, one of his intentions has been to convey an accurately medieval sense of how the powerful prey upon the powerless, including men preying on women....many of the horrors that take place in them—sexual and otherwise—are essential to the narrative. So when condensing their source material, Benioff and Weiss have had little choice but to increase the overall ratio of horror: Two gruesome events separated by hundreds of book pages detailing wedding feasts and noble sigils might, through the simple act of compression, find themselves onscreen in consecutive episodes—or even the same one. Finally, video is simply a “hotter,” more immediate medium than the printed word. Witnessing atrocities is inevitably a different experience from having them described on the page."

I reject the idea that sexual violence is essential to any narrative. Also, the idea that since books are longer, the TV version has to increase the overall ratio. What a sick point of view. TV is "hotter"? So the atrocities are inevitable? No. Just...no.

The musical score, by Richard Roddgers was one of the best things about this series.

Never watched one second of Game of Thrones either nor Sopranos or Breaking Bad and I religiously avoid all shows based on the occult.
