Yes, it would help but I cannot fathom seeing us beat Notre lame. And the uglies are starting to look like a challenge too.

This person and their "old way" thinking is one of the major problems with USC football. The only thing that matters today is the CFP. Update your goals.

Silly post. Makes for a sad time as a fan, given that a NC only comes along pretty rarely. One might argue that arguing that only 1 team (or 4) had a good year and the other 120 were failures is a "major problem."

The Conference is what matters. Anything more is a bonus.

Those who say National Title game or bust are setting themselves up for failure and disappointment. Not even PC said that.

The playoffs are decided by fools and we cannot control that aspect of the season. ...If we year in year out beat the bruins, the Domers and win the pac 12 ...The playoffs will take care of them selves. This season given the tough early schedule and breaking in a new QB (when was the last time a new QB won The Pac 12?) the goal is beat ND,ucla, win the Pac 12 and then win the Rose Bowl.....What world do you live in??

Yeah, but it might only be a 2-game home winning streak by that point.

It seems we are mistaking goals vs. expectations again.

If you are expecting the CFP every year, you will be disappointed. But I think the CFP (whether you like the format or not) should be the goal every year. Of course they won’t achieve that every year, such an expectation is unrealistic and there are too many things that they can’t control. But that should be the goal.

If all you are aiming for is to beat the rivals and maybe win the conference, that’s all you will ever get. I want us to occasionally make the CFP and contend for an NC. I don’t think that’s too high of a goal.

I thought the goal was to be a good football team in November? Did I get the wrong memo?

Not MAYBE winning the conference but WINNING IT.......That should be the goal along with winning our rivalry games........If you do that other things are possible (but they are not things you can control"....Then winning your bowl game or GAMES.....In 2016 we didn't win the Conference but we wound up with the longest win streak, kicked the ass of the pac 12 team that made the playoffs, beat the Big 10 team that should have been in the playoffs....In the Rose Bowl....Wound up #3 in the Country....Would you rather be us or Ohio State that was humiliated in the playoffs 34-0...??

It should be more than ucla and Notre Dame for USC.

Beating USC as a way of making their season is what the bruins think.

If we've been taken to that level of thinking of a win over ucla as being our only way for making a season redeeming, ugh!

Guess you missed the memo that the RB is part of the CFP rotation. So there are going to be years where the non-CFP worthy P12 team doesnt get to play in your beloved RB.

Honestly, both the Domers and UCLA look better as time goes by. I don't think the team has the focus to beat either team. Just sayin.
