I've been out of the loop for a while, but has there been any news regarding a potential Athletic Director hire?

We’re a month away from having someone at the earliest, so be patient.

They said 4 weeks to identify candidate(s)....4 weeks to hire. Nowhere near ready enough for an announcement unless a candidate had already been picked out.

Add Clay to the search committee from his new admin role at HH, leaving HC duties to Mike Jenks

Honestly, I wish Clay would just resign and become an assistant AD for whoever is coming in. I dont want him making critical choices but hes a nice guy and I think is better suited for a role like that.

The selection of an AD is the biggest hire in a long. It seems the admin is going about it in a proper way
Hopefully all this time taken will lead to a good choice

keep in mind that any top AD candidate (AD or Asst AD type) currently employed with a school is not going to walk away in middle of football season. Similar to the Business School Dean hiring its taking a year from him to transition from his current school to USC. Not saying at all that it will take this long or even close for the new USC AD, just that I wouldn't expect them to be actually in place until early next year like January or February - well after the point in time that you would want to make a football HC change. Look at Dr Folt's hiring - she left UNC in January, was unemployed when selected in March, and took over the presidency in July.

If they're unemployed or retired, then it could be a whole lot sooner - but does SC really want this choice is the question.
