    Gee, I wonder why.

I find it ironic that Amazon, which has been criticized for paying low wages in the recent past, now pushes for a federal $15 minimum wage.

Dem politicians have done all they can to bury small businesses under draconian (and unnecessary) Covid restrictions, closing a great many and leaving many more barely hanging on. It sure looks like Amazon wants the Dems to finish off their competition for them.

I’m just curious as to whether or not Amazon would exist today had there been the equivalent of a $15 minimum wage early in their existence when they were just trying to stay afloat.

coming from a fireman? How is that next contracted raise going. How about we do free market for fireman, see how many want a job where you work 8 days a month. I am guessing we could fill those jobs at $8 an hour

The Democrat Party is about as anti-small business as you can get. They despise those who do not require or want government handouts.

Mega corporations are using the Democrats to get rid of their competition.

Amazon knows that this would hurt Walmart as well, their largest brick and mortar competitor.

I cannot imagine this coward performing any dangerous firefighter activity if he were getting paid $8000 per hour

I doubt many would want the board idiot responsible for saving a life at any price. He’d certainly screw it up and ruin everyone’s day

What is the connection between pay scale and bravery, what do we pay marines. The story here is everyone is good with lowering other peoples pay as long as no one touches their pay. There are a lot of people paid very well in jobs that are not free market. I really do not understand the republican attack on minimum wage, great countries pay well. Lousy countries have slave labor. What is the US, we have the lowest minimum wage of any modern country

In a world in which Democrats behaved morally, this might be considered monopolistic behavior. Amazon is using its superior market position to influence Congress to enact legislation that would disadvantage and eliminate potential competition.

Really? Perfectly understandable. Because, after all, it's only been explained about fifty times since you've been on this board.

yes like you said the election was stolen and there was no insurrection on the capitol. Also aren't you they one that still claims states with more guns are safer? Sorry I do not buy all your FACTS?

Is the US a top 10 country or not, I guess not. I bet we beat out Jamaica and Viet Nam

The Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development developed a list of each country's minimum wages. The ten countries with the highest minimum wages (in USD) are:

    1. Luxembourg ($13.78)
    2. Australia ($12.14)
    3. France ($11.66)
    4. New Zealand ($11.20)
    5. Germany ($10.87)
    6. Netherlands ($10.44)
    7. Belgium ($10.38)
    8. United Kingdom ($10.34)
    9. Ireland ($9.62)
    10. Canada ($9.52)

Do you even own one thing from those small utterly insignificant countries? As incubators of creativity, you would have more success finding innovation in pond scum than those dead, calcifying carcass countries.

Was Amazon paying $15/hr when it first started? It killed Sears on minimum wage cheap labor, now it wants to handicap upstarts.

The whole of Democratic policy is this:

    Everybody gets unlimited do overs.

Got an unwanted pregnancy? We’ll fix that.

Didn’t study in school, no worries we will give you a free job.

Can’t pay your debt, we got you!

Don’t want to parent your kids, we will take that off your hands.

It doesn’t. It’s your cheap and ignorant shot at firefighters that’s the issue.

Seriously, if you think that you can find people who meet the minimum qualifications of a high school diploma (or GED), Basic Fire Academy (requires prerequisites then 8-12 weeks of fire academy) and paramedic license (requires 3 months EMT school, the one year in the field as an EMT, then 6-12 months of paramedic school) to work for $8 per hour, good luck.

I have a hard time keeping them at $20 per hour.

Exactly. They were not paying anywhere near the equivalent of $15 per hour when they were starting out, even up until just a few years ago. They were criticized by employees and the media just a few years ago for paying low wages.

Now that they are one of the most profitable businesses in the world, one based almost entirely on the internet, and their founder is by far the richest man in the world and increased his wealth by more than $100 billion during the Covid lockdowns, they now want to crush the remaining competition from small businesses and further handicap competition from many larger brick and mortar stores, including Walmart.

Despite what they claim, there is no altruistic motivation in Amazon’s push for a $15 minimum wage.

China is pushing this with Amazon as the front man. The goal is to demolish American entrepreneurship.
