Three-star inside linebacker Ty Kana (Katy, Tex./Katy) announced his commitment to USC this morning.

He’s a 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker who was very productive last season and named first-team all-district.

USC offered last February and the defensive coaches from Texas are obviously very familiar with him. Virginia Tech, Baylor, Washington, Oklahoma State, Colorado and others have also offered.

He’s commitment No. 5 for USC in the 2022 class.

Same high school. My wife went to Northwestern, so they’ve become my second team. I’ll absolutely take another Paddy Fisher.

And Katy is definitely a school where USC wants to have a presence.

Also runs the 100/200 in track, so he’s got motor.....good start.

Based on that film, he’s definitely a thumper. No problem reading, then sticking his nose in there. Looked good getting off a few blocks as well. If he can keep that speed and put on about 20-30lbs, looks like he has a chance to be a force inside.

I actually have a friend who moved there. His son plays at another school there in Katy.
A lot of people from Southern California ended up there, Cypress and The Woodlands.
That entire school district puts a lot of players into college football.
Good thing is we have a presence there

I'm not sure why he's rated where he is. He seems to have good numbers and great production. I haven't seen a written eval of him by any of the recruiting sites -- only a star ranking and number ranking.

Dave Aranda offer and the Pete Kwiatkowski offer speaks volumes.
    Baylor and Washington

Utah one would have been good to see as well.
But if you see a Baylor offer with a LB in Texas it says a lot.
Aranda understands the modern LB especially in Todd Orlando's Defense more than anyone.

Very good pickup. We should be happy with Kana's commitment. His 40 best time 4.54, most likely runs 4.6 on average. Bio said he runs the 100 m and 200 m in track. Kana's 40 yd times would convert or calculate to about 11.2 100 meters and 23.1 200 meters. That is very fast for someone his size and position.

Looking over Ty's HL tape, TK has a high motor, fast, sure tackler, good vision, quick twitch and reaction, smart, instinctive, very physical LB. Kana should be 4* easily.

Looks like DC Orlando and D staff are going after fast DB's and LB's. Excellent strategy. The LB position is shaping into a strong, very fast unit: Simon, Davis, Kana and maybe Beavers. 2 more LB's like these boys will do the trick.

I still think they need a run stuffer to complement these amazing athletes. Goforth looked really small playing on the inside, and we all know John Houston couldn't stop the run until it was 7-10 yards downfield.

My fear as well. Per his highlight video, he is John Houston all over again. Quick, intelligent, always around the ball, but a little light to stop a ball carrier on his own.

Film is just film, and he will grow, so time will tell.

    Fight On Ty!

Sure a 6'2 210lb LB guy kills it in HS, but put him in a P5 conference and he'll be pushed all over the field by 320lb linemen almost every single down. I sure hope this guy hasn't max'd out in terms of size. This is a flyer offer, hence why he's a 3*. He could end up being a 215lb tweeter, special teams player at best. Hope the opposite is true.

We need some speed on defense. Pac12 is all about speed, options, and passing....not power running.

So SC is all about focusing on winning in the Pac12??? screw the Pac12! Focusing on winning the Pac12 is wanting to be King of Crap Mountain. WHY?

His speed is impressive, I'll give you that. However 40 times don't always 1:1 translate into FB success. I hope he proves the rating services wrong in labeling him a 3* and he turns into a 1st round selection in a few years.
