Donte Williams added another title to his job description on Thursday, as USC head coach Clay Helton announced that Williams is now an Associate Head Coach.

Williams was already serving as the cornerbacks coach and defensive pass game coordinator as well as one of the strongest recruiters in the country, let alone the conference or the program.

“This promotion reflects the immediate impact that Donte has made and the respect he has earned since joining our program,” Helton said in a statement released by the school.  “We have seen that impact both with the improved performance of the players he has coached and in his recruiting accomplishments.  With this expanded role, he will further his growth as a coach and will be able to make a continued impact in all areas of our program.”

USC’s pass defense was much-improved in 2020, as the Trojans allowed just 216.3 yards through the air per game — the fewest allowed since the 2013 season. Cornerback Chris Steele was named the the All-Pac-12 Second Team while Olaijah Griffin was named Honorable Mention.

USC has two cornerback signees in the 2021 recruiting class, in Prophet Brown and Jaylin Smith, but Williams was instrumental in signing many other members of the class and has helped put USC in contention for a few more significant pieces to potentially be added in the coming days and weeks.
