That defeat was the Bears’ second in a row, as they fell at then-No. 5 Utah, 30-24, after opening up 2015 with 5 consecutive victories. Cal features an explosive offense that is particularly effective through the air and a defense that gets a lot of turnovers. The Bears rank 10th nationally in passing offense (346.7, second in Pac-12), 16th in total offense (504.6, fourth in Pac-12) and 21st in scoring offense (37.9, fourth in Pac-12). Headlining the offense is junior QB Jared Goff (182-278 passing, 65.5%, 2,265 yds, 20 TD, 9 int in 2015), who holds 25 school records, including career passing yards (9,746), passing TDs (3), completions (818) and total offense (9,632). He currently is ninth nationally in passing TDs (20, second in Pac- 12), 10th in passing yards (323.6, second in Pac-12), 13th in total offense (322.4, second in Pac-12) and 25th passing efficiency (151.2, fourth in Pac-12). His top targets are junior WR Kenny Lawler (39 rec, 497 yds, 12.7 avg, 9 TD in 2015), eighth nationally in receiving TDs (9, second in Pac-12) and already fourth on Cal’s career TD catch list (23), senior TE Stephen Anderson (28 rec, 348 yds, 12.4 avg in 2015), senior WR Darius Powe (24 rec, 226 yds, 9.4 avg, 3 TD in 2015) and senior WR Bryce Treggs (20 rec, 296 yds, 14.8 avg, 2 in 2015), whose 170 career receptions is fifth on Cal’s all-time chart. Cal’s running attack is shared by senior RB Daniel Lasco (38 tcb, 178 yds, 4.7 avg, 2 TD in 2015, plus 3 rec, 31 yds, 10.3 avg), junior RB Khalfani Muhammad (51 tcb, 429 yds, 8.4 avg, 1 TD in 2015, plus 13 rec, 110 yds, 8.5 avg, 1 TD) and sophomore RB Vic Enwere (68 rec, 310 yds, 4.6 avg, 5 TD in 2015, plus 6 rec, 12 yds, 2.0 avg). The Bears’ defense is 19th nationally in turnover margin (0.9, third in Pac-12) and 23rd in sacks (2.9, third in Pac-12), and has 12 interceptions to date. Top tacklers are junior S Damariay Drew (44 tac, 2.5 for loss, 2 int in 2015), junior LB Hardy Nickerson (40 tac, 1 for loss, 1 FR in 2015), senior DE Kyle Kragen (38 tac, 6 for loss, 5 sack, 1 dfl, 1 FF in 2015) and senior LB Jalen Jefferson (33 tac, 2.5 for loss, 1 sack, 1 int, 2 dfl in 2015).
