The USC Trojans will likely be without wide receiver Bru McCoy when the team takes the field to open fall camp later this week after reports surfaced Monday that McCoy was arrested on July 24 on suspicion of felony intimate partner violence with injury.

According to a statement from USC Athletics, McCoy “has been temporarily removed from team activities.”

“USC does not condone violence of any kind. We are aware of the situation, and USC’s Office for Equity, Equal Opportunity, and Title IX is reviewing it,” said the statement from USC Athletics. “Because of federal student privacy laws, we are unable to share additional information at this time.”

McCoy was released the night of his arrest on $50,000 bail. Keely Eure of USCFootball.com was first to report McCoy’s arrest. According to multiple reports, McCoy is scheduled to appear in court on November 24.

McCoy looked like he would be an important part of the USC offense this season. After a slow start to his college career that included a transfer to Texas and then back to USC, then a mysterious illness that kept him sidelined for his first season, McCoy caught 21 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns as a redshirt freshman last season. He had back-to-back huge plays to help win the game against Arizona State, hauling in a fourth-down touchdown pass and then recovering an onside kick to help set up the game-winning drive.
