You people are FREAKING OUT!!
Yes, it appeared the game against Idaho presented a lackluster performance and a possible “light-switch” effort, but you have to take several things into consideration.
The starters played three quarters, the lineups changed constantly, making continuity difficult for players and coaches, the stats WERE lopsided, the defense did a really good job, and SC won, and won big. Not big enough? Perfection is not the goal.
We did not apply pressure to the QB as he was delivering on a series of one step drops and shot gun passes. We over pursued a couple of times on “passing downs” only to be fooled by good run calls. 64 players played, 13 first timers, a great number considering the fact this roster is loaded up on top.
Booty looked okay considering his favorite receivers from a year ago are gone, and fave from this year was out. Runners looked pretty good, too. So did the kicking game. We were upside down in turnovers and won by four touchdowns.
Most importantly, Nebraska saw nothing.

Our broadcast went smoothly. Everyone was keyed up for the opener, although we may have lost focus in the second quarter a bit (who didn’t?) It was great to be working with all the gang again. Without hearing the tapes, I gave it a “B”. Solid yet unremarkable. Remind you of anyone?

I got to the area about 12:45 to watch women’s volleyball toy with Mercer College. It was very cool and air conditioned in Galen…you really missed it!

How bout those Wolverines??!! How bout them Irish!!?? Cal looked good, as did much of the Pac 10. Even Wazzu stuck with #7 Wisconsin for three quarters on the road.

Every SC sports team is undefeated right now!!

So is Marshall High with a 36-0 triumph over GP’s North Hollywood Huskies. Ex-NHHS hoops coach Mike Miller is the PA guy there. Last time Marshall beat NH was 1975 in the playoffs when Eagles coach Andy Reid kicked the third of his season total three game winning, last play field goals on the road. The two had not met since 79.

Sunday and Monday were beach days. Big waves this weekend. Good body surfing. Water’s getting colder, though.

Youngest Daughter Ronnie opens JV volleyball play for Valencia High today at home.

It was cool to have KC in the booth with us Saturday updating the scoreboard. He seemed to have caught the eye of Paul McDonald’s admin assistant.

Starting work on the Nebraska boards and writing a feature for the SC web site on the Nebraska series, short as it might be.
It’s good to work ahead. Washington State looms already.

Cushing out for the week, but right now, all those banged bodies are starting to get healthy. Oh Yeah, there’s yet another reason the Trojans might have been struggling a little. Not to mention that’s it’s Idaho and it has to be hard to stay focused for that kind of effort for too long, the kind of effort you WANT to have against Nebraska and beyond.
