Before people think I hate Notre Dame, let me say this - there are two schools that I decided between when coming out of high school: USC and Notre Dame. I’d rather beat Notre Dame than anyone else on the schedule, but at the same time, I know a lot of Notre Dame people and call many my friends.
Having met Charlie Weis, he’s not my type of guy… but this isn’t a personal attack. Notre Dame simply deserves better than this coach, and USC would do much better right now if Saturday’s game actually had some real meaning to it. Have you noticed that ABC’s national game of the week is Oklahoma-Oklahoma State, and SC-ND got bumped to ESPN? Did you ever think the game’s greatest rivalry and the only national intersectional rivalry would be bumped for an in-state clash in Oklahoma?
There has been plenty said this week about Notre Dame and Charlie Weis. The last thing I want to do is sound repetitive, so I figured I’d find a new, fun, light-hearted way to say it (this poem is a spin-off of the poem “Mice” – by Rose Fyleman):
I think Weis
is not so nice.
He’s an offensive genius,
But they can’t move the ball
Teams facing their defense
Don’t fear them at all.
Play calling is bad,
They’re so uninspired.
They find ways to lose,
And they just look tired.
He’s taken a program
With as much history as any
And now they’re rock bottom
Looking up at so many
As long as he’s there
We’ll keep beating them bad
But after a while
It just gets sort of sad
‘But he signed a big contract
They can’t fire him now!’
No – it’s losing to Syracuse
That they just can’t allow
SC is doing its part
They’re carrying the mantle
Notre Dame is the reason
Folks are changing the channel
So get mad, Irish faithful!
Rise up, Notre Dame!
Get rid of old Charlie!
And get back in the game
Yes, I think Weis,
Is not so nice.
